Dahlia is a genus of bushy, tuberous, herbaceous perennial plants native to Mexico and Central America. A member of the Compositae (also called Asteraceae) family of dicotyledonous plants, its garden relatives thus include the sunflower, daisy, chrysanthemum, and zinnia. There are 42 species of dahlia.

I know less about "cultivars" than wildflowers, but that's because cultivated roses, dahlias, daisies, and so on are so ubiquitous that they're like the robins, mourning doves, mallards, and sparrows that we love but - at least in the past - we didn't have to hunt for them.

On the other hand, if the Dahlia is native to Mexico and Central America, then it must be wild somewhere in the world ... like on my mountain. This particular flower was found in a park in Twin Falls, Idaho.

The Dahlia is one of the most beautiful flowers, but some roses look better in black and white. Besides, I don't want to go off on a black and white tangent. I've got enough to hold me for ... probably a year even if I never leave the house again.

Long story short, I think I may have talked to the ghost of a dead rail worker without realising it at the time. As I looked up from the camera he was stood just out of shot to the left, scaring the life out of me.

First glance confirmed the guy to be beyond exhausted, understandable walking the tracks at midnight, I mentioned to him that he gave me a fright, only to be returned with an emotionless face and an unwavering gaze. After an awkward pause he told me there's a train coming through and the barriers are going to close soon.

Everything seemed legit, railworker walking a seldom used branch line, and for freight trains to be moving at that time of night. Only problem was it never arrived, I hung around to get a motion blur shot for 40 minutes.

There's a whole host of valid explanations to go with the not a ghost theory, me not thinking he was one at the time ranks right up there. His corporealness was unquestionable, his emotionless and abstract responses, coupled with a delay or total breakdown of communication at times could have gone unnoticed, the glazed lifeless eyes still have me pondering though.

The Story: CSX train K160 runs past SEPTA's Neshaminy Fall Station, with all BNSF power. They were moving all of track speed, after stopping at Woodbourne Rd. for a crossing activation failure.

A lot of my recent photos were the result of planned outings. This was taken while I was at work. Wichita has these little spots where the suburbs just sort of went around them. Apps used were Camera 645 , After Focus, Leonardo and Snapseed.
