The underappreciated Mourning Dove is the best light. The "best light" is sun that is shining on and reflecting from every feather patch (and that blue, blue bill) normally hidden when the dove is sitting on the ground or perched in a tree. Even the red feet are accentuated. Although I've been photographing mourning doves for 20 years, and have gotten these colors individually, this is the first time to get them all in one image. Since the mourning dove can have four broods a year, perhaps it has something to do with "breeding season " which goes on forever.
