A primeira Lua!
1/400

Built 1953 saw RAF service before being converted to a radio controlled U.14 in 1961. She then flew on missile trials for the Royal Navy, based in Malta. Back in the UK, she was returned to B.2 status and flew with the Aeroplane & Armament Experimental Establishment at Boscombe Down until being loaned to Martin Baker at Chalgrove in 1985. She was broken up at Aberporth in 1994 with the remains of the nose joining BDAC in May 2001. She has been restored with a dry refuelling probe as previously fitted.

The following information on WH876 is from bywat.com:-
“Ready for collection in October 1953, this B.2 was taken into RAF charge with 115 Sqd, newly reformed with Canberras in January 1954 at RAF Marham. Between then and September 1960 it was transferred onto 207 Sqd (also at Marham) and the 73 Sqd in Akrotiri. WH876 was transferred to the charge of the Ministry of Aircraft in September 1960 where it stayed until being flown to Shorts Brothers, Belfast. There it was converted into a Mk U.14 radio controlled aircraft. It first flew in this configuration on 10 September 1961.
WH876, in U.14 configuration, was used as a pilotless drone target by 728B Squadron. This was a Royal Navy squadron, at Hal Far, Malta, who flew these target drone Canberras on guided missile trials [Seacat and Seaslug]. WH876 was numbered "595" whilst with the RN. The Canberras, six of them, were painted all-over white with wide black bands around the outer part of the wings. The navy only managed to shoot down one of the six - WH921 ("590") - brought down by a missile fired by HMS Girdle Ness on 6 October 1961. Having survived the Navy(!), WH876 returned to the UK in December 1961 where it was put into store at Pershore.
During 1963, WH876 was re-worked as a B.2 with the removal of the radio control equipment and joined the Bomber Maritime Test Squadron at the A&AEE in March 1964. It was used mostly for target towing although by 1971, an in-flight refuelling nose probe had been fitted - but this was never a "wet" system. In the mid 1970s, WH876 was carrying out ejector seat tests with the A&AEE at Boscombe Down having replaced WJ638 which had been used previously. It remained at Boscombe until it was transferred to Martin Baker at Chalgrove in mid 1985 to carry out work on parachute trials.
Returning to Boscombe Down in 1988, WH876 was put into storage again and was finally dismantled there in 1990.”
I will be heading to Zion National Park in July for a few days to hike and photograph The Narrows and go canyoneering in The Subway via the top down rout which includes a few short rappels. Planning gear for this trip has been a chalange and my previous gear post has been popular, so I am updating with a list of what I will be carrying for this trip.
Zion is known for its deep beautiful slot canyons filled with ice cold water and mysterious reflected light. Exploring these canyons is not an easy trek. The 16 mile 2 day trip through The Narrows has you literally walking through the Virgin River most of the time. Some sections are only a few feet wide with 1200+ ft walls on both sides requiring a few short swims. To keep my gear dry I will be carrying a few dry bags. The blue dry bag will carry the Mountainsmith Kit Cube with my camera and lens' inside during any technical spots in the canyon. The rest of the time I will be carrying the camera with a lens attached by my side in the orange dry bag. The blue bag, and all the other gear goes inside the yellow bag, and inside my backpack (double protection for photo gear). This should work and keep everything dry. Fingers crossed.
When heading into the backcountry with photography equipment every ounce counts. As I have upgraded my photo kit with faster, heavier lenses, I have decreased the weight of my backpacking gear with ultra light equipment to compensate. I'm pretty happy with this setup. But....If i were to change anything I would add a Gitzo Traveler Tripod with a RRS BH25 head, shaving off about a pound and a half; gaining a steadier base for the heavier lenses.
I will also be carying a Canon 40D (used to take this picture), a ND64 filter for silky waterfalls in daylight, and a remote release for long exposures in the dark canyons, as well as the hoods for all the lenses.
Everything here will be carried in a Osprey Exos 58. I used this pack on my last few trips and love it. It's super light for an internal frame pack and carries all my heavy photo gear very comfortably.
Off hand this setup should weigh in around 35lbs with food and water. Not to bad considering my original pack weighed about 20lbs more, with less gear. I'll update with proper weights when I get a chance.
