At the time of posting this on flickr (December 2021) the box is still operational.
The box was originally known as Blaydon East. See 1899 inspection plan (useful in that it shows when the box was extended to accommodate a new 60 lever frame, previously 33 levers). www.flickr.com/photos/192151030@N08/51718215027/in/album-...
The later 75 (or 76?) lever frame is shown on the 1905 inspection sketch... although whoever drew this failed to show what the inspection was for! www.flickr.com/photos/192151030@N08/51719680369/in/album-...
Interesting to note the significant variance in numbering between 1905 and 1966, but it is noticeable that by 1966 all functions except for 74/75 gate controls had been compressed down into left hand half of the frame leaving 47-73 spare, – no doubt the precursor for later shortening of the frame (and box)!

In 1973 there were signalling alterations affecting Blaydon - Derwenthaugh - Norwood which abolished the semaphore signals and replaced them with colour light signals. Although the date on the notice was 12 August 1973 the work was postponed until 2 Sep 1973.

A Lego Technic 9398 4x4 Crawler (with Two Face 1.9 Offroad Scale Tires) crushes Stephanie's Cool Convertible! These RC4WD tires ( store.rc4wd.com/Two-Face-19-Offroad-Scale-Tires_p_705.html ) fit Lego 44772 "Wheel 56mm x 34mm Technic Racing Medium" size pieces that come with the 9398 set. Any 1.9" (48mm Inside Diameter) RC tires with a width of 37mm-48mm will fit these wheels. RC-type 1.9" (48mm) tires that fit onto Lego 44772 Wheel, sorted by Outside Diameter (O.D.). Consider replacing your common Lego 54120 "Balloon Tire 94.8 x 44R" with a custom tire that looks more realistic and has better grip! The RC4WD website listed is just one source for these tires; do a search for the tire name to find other sources for your country.

Charles Eamer Kempe was a painter of walls, ceilings and woodwork of churches in the 1860s. The style then in vogue reflected a resurgence of interest to high church practices. Kempe's training served him well, and he started his own stained glass company, CE Kempe & Co in London, in 1868. He was not a trained artist, but was nevertheless artistic, and able to suggest ideas which could be developed by his artists and cartoonists. He insisted that only the firm's name should take the credit for the standard of work produced, and that individual members of the studio remain anonymous.
Kempe perfected the use of silver stain on clear glass, which leaves a yellow tint, which could be delicate or deep depending on the amount of stain. His greatest stylistic influence was the stained glass of Northern Germany and Flanders from the 16th Century. He took many trips to Europe, often taking the Kempe Company artists with him. The insignia of Kempe, from about 1895 until his death in 1907 was a wheatsheaf, from his family's coat of arms. After his death, the firm was run by four of his directors, including his cousin, Walter Tower. The insignia then changed to a wheatsheaf with a black tower.
