Three Israel Railways steam locomotives (ex-Palestine Railways Baldwin 4-6-0 Nr. 883, LMS class 8F 2-8-0 Nr. 70503 (North British 24711 / 1941), and another LMS 8F steam locomotive) during a bridge test late in 1954, on the recently completed new main line between Haifa and Tel Aviv. Depicted in this view is the new Yarkon River bridge, in the north of Tel Aviv.
Officially inaugurated on November 04, 1954, the new railway line provided a direct link between the two cities, along the new coastal route. Eucalyptus trees and rich vegetation were once a common sight in this area.

In the advent of electrication, the parapet of Abingdon Rd Bridge at Hinksey has been raised by a foot or so. This shot was made by holding the camara at full stretch obove the parapet to try and record the 408T 0943 Morris Cowley M.A.T. to Southampton Eastern Docks (R). There was plenty going on including the 623H 1019 Hinksey Sdgs to Eastleigh East Yard (centre) but we had to hit the road and head West before it all started to move.
Colas Rail 70813 brings the 643T 1446 Oxford Up Carriage Sdgs into Hinksey Sdgs from the North with a rake of empty "coalfish" ballast wagons and 70803 in tow at the rear.
Bamileke tribal art of the mask
The Bamileke masks on display was made to the honor king (Fon) and or important chiefs. The piece is regarded as an object of power and is displayed during important rituals and ceremonies, to commemorate and celebrate the royal ancestors of the present Fon. The Colorful beads are the most important part of this mask and the abstract patterns are symbols of great wisdom. The cowry shells depict wealth. The power of the Fon also ensures the protection of his people and guarantees the fertility of the fields and the fecundity of the women.

The red DBS class 66 loco, at the head of 4O39 0943 Morris Cowley M.A.T. to Southampton Eastern Docks, starts this extrordinarily long train out of Hinksey Yard containing about £5M of minis (surely a mistake Ed.).
Throughout the 3 days we spent at Hinksey we had tantalising glimpses of this train through our caravan window but never had a good view of the front end. This was partly due to variations in timetable but mainly because of its extrordinary length. Each WIA wagon forms a 5-car articulated set and we estimated 8 to10 sets each containing 33 Morris Minis at 4m length each. This adds up to nearly a mile of train - amazing. Here 4O39 0943 Morris Cowley M.A.T. to Southampton Eastern Docks finds a clear road South after a long standby at Hinksey Yard.
