The last in my mountain series, looking for chipmunks. This find came toward the end of my busy morning. It is a woodpecker on one of those lovely Western Junipers. I dared not ID for sure, and ran it by my Birdie FB-ID group. Confirmed: Hairy Woodpecker, male, a lifer for me. How cool izhat?
Three big UP motors get an outbound shuttle train moving. This is an NCRC train and crew and they would pick up 65 loads from Shelby.

Nos. 7012 and 7041 have just passed Liudigou on the climb to Shangdian Summit with a westbound mixed freight. 26 November 2002.
After an overnight train journey from Beijing to Chifeng followed by a drive of almost three hours to our hotel at Reshui where we arrived at about 06.00, a quick departure east was made where we met a westbound mixed freight just after sunrise. Our third pic of this train headed by QJs 7041 and 7012 was just beyond Galadesitai (the station serving the town of Reshui) at the foot of the twisting westbound climb of about 23km to Shangdian Summit. 22 November 2002.
CP 7012 is on the tail end of CP 112 as it slowly approaches Lachine IMS Yard, its transcontinental journey from Vancouver nearly over.

This train has put me through an emotional rollercoaster. It came through Parkville about 4:30am. At that pace, I expected him leaving Lincoln mid-afternoon. He would sit at Havelock most of the day while other empties ran around it. Finally he got a signal into Hobson where a new crew wouldn't be called until well after dark.
