No traveling without staircases 😄 Netherlands and Belgium have amazing ones.

In Netherlands they have fancy staircases even inside parking garages 😄

Fancy lookup in Amsterdam

A staircase composition with lines to each of the four corners (German: "Eckenläufer") is what you usually strive for, but it rarely works out.

The Port House is one of Antwerp’s architectural jewels. This funky and innovative building is the headquarters of the Antwerp Port Authority that accommodates over 500 employees. The striking and contemporary superstructure in the shape of a diamond is a monumental design of the famous Zaha Hadid Architects.

Technical note: The building is ~50m high, so I had to decide whether to retain the original shape of the building or avoid converging lines (not having access to a tilt-shift lens).

No trip without staircases 😉

While Graz is not known for spiral staircases there is one which is very special though. A double-spiral staircase - two flights of staircases, running in opposite directions, join for some steps on each floor, separate again, join again... The architectural masterpiece of 1499 has often been interpreted as a symbol of eternity. Graz people call it the "stairs of reconciliation". If you go separate ways, you will reunite.

There is a certain silence in old stone and wrought iron. Every step feels like an echo of the feet that have climbed here before. Finding beauty in the geometry of the past.

The Mother of all Munich staircases 😊

St Paul's Church (Paulskirche) in Frankfurt has evolved from a place of worship into a memorial and monument. It is the birthplace of German democracy and the site of the first freely elected German National Assembly in 1848.

... or simply: GOAL !!! ⚽⚽⚽

After Germany's magnificent win yesterday and their successful World Cup qualification, this image was just too perfect 😄

Even though it has nothing to do with football, but is a picture of the sculpture "Sphere" by Danish artist Ólafur Elíasson.

"The eight-tonne, ten-meter diameter spiral ball Sphere in Munich downtown shopping center Fünf Höfe is not to be missed: if you stand below it and look up, you are looking into a distinct space, the interior of the ball. Ólafur Elíasson wanted this work to symbolize the interconnectedness of our world."<(i>

The Stuttgart City Library impresses with its breathtaking architecture and is considered one of the most beautiful libraries in the world. Around 500,000 media items are on the shelves of the 11 floors.

Kate Bush was running up that hill - I take the stairs instead 😄

The moment when you are looking for a nice framing of your staircase shot, the door next to you opens, a celebrity looks out and says "Servus" (Bavarian greeting) - this makes the staircase an unforgettable experience 😄⚽

This is one of the few staircases where you don't need to worry about taking top-down shots 😄

Actually it's a staircase from the stars, which you walk down to leave the Mercedes Benz Museum with its more than 1500 exhibits on 16500 m².

... is where I stood with my camera close to the railing to shoot this staircase bottom up:

Festively decorated chancel of St. Ludwig, Munich. The romanesque church was built between 1829 and 1844 and has the second largest altarpiece fresco in the world.

I captured this on a very dull day with little light inside the church but ugly haze coming in through the windows, so I had a hard time to get something reasonably usable from post-processing. To top it all off, the shadow of an inattentive photographer disturbs the scene 😄

Wishing you a peaceful merry Christmas 🎄✨🎅

Can you imagine a 15-storey building where the staircase is full of graffitis from the cellar to the roof?
