Rebuilt Patriot Class 4-6-0 6P No 45530 Sir Frank Ree stands in the shed yard at Corkerhill Glasgow.

A locomotive with an interesting history, on paper it started life as a C. J. Bowen-Cook designed LNWR Claughton No 205 built at Crewe (Wks No 5564) and delivered in May 1921, renumbered 6022 in November 1926, rebuilt by Fowler in 1928 and withdrawn in January 1933, it was again rebuilt as a Patriot at Crewe (Wks No 101) and delivered in April 1933 retaining the original number although nothing of the original loco was used, rebuild again by Ivatt in October 1946 as the loco seen here withdrawn in January 1966 and scrapped at Motherwell Machinery & Scrap at Inshaw Works in July 1966.

This week we are going back to 1990 and Dublin Bus D 812 at the route 67A terminus in Maynooth. This route started around 1988 and was an extension of route 67 from Celbridge to Maynooth, the 67 itself dating back to at least 1934. The 67A lasted until November 2010 when Network Direct extended the 67 fully to Maynooth from Celbridge. The route is due to cease in late-2021 when the Bus Connects C-Spine starts.

D 812 is seen at the old 67A terminus in Court House Square. it subsequently moved closer to the railway station on Straffan Road where the 67 terminates today. However, Bus Eireann still refer to the present terminus as the 67A terminus in their timetables.

D 812 was delivered new to CIE in 1976. It was withdrawn by Dublin Bus in 1994. 16/07/1990

Literally, with a sight rarely seen south of the border as a Black Five fitted with a tablet catcher, No 45124 from Hurlford (67B), comes on shed.

Notes: The shed had been built by the Glasgow and South Western Railway, subsequently LMS, 67A under BR. The allocation was modernised substantially by BR with 70% Riddles "standard" locos - the largest proportion I ever saw. The full list seen that day (and some notes about the trip) is here.

Does anyone know what business operated from this shop at 67A Upper George's Street in Dun Laoghaire.

There is a website that shows unoccupied buildings and they have catalogued this building as being 67 George's Street Upper in Dun Laoghaire but this is incorrect as there is a print shop at 67 and it is an active business. Visit abandoneddublin.ie

As the building shown in my photograph is next door to Walters I suspected that the building must be 67A.

Further searching showed that the 13 May 2019 Derelict Sites Register lists number 68 as being derelict but that is the address of Walters which was a restaurant or pub.

As the Walters site changed hands for €800,000 about six years ago I was a bit surprised to see it listed as derelict especially as I had heard that it was to be reopened as "House Dun Laoghaire".

Eventually after an examination of planning applications I came across the following: 09-Sep-2019 "67A Georges Street Upper, Dun Laoghaire, Co. Dublin - Permission for development for partial demolition, renovation, alterations & additions to existing ground floor retail unit, & ground & first floor 3-bedroom residential unit to provide 1no. ground floor retail unit of 21.5sq.m. & 1no. 2-bedroom residential unit over 3 storeys with roof light , solar panels and roof garden, accessed from George's Street Upper, and construction of 1no. 2-storey , 2- bedroom mews house with solar panels accessed via entrance courtyard off Impex Lane, and all associated site works."

My understanding is that the planning application was approved in January 2020

This week we are going back thirty-one years to RH 78 in Maynooth, on route 67A. This route started operating between the city centre and Maynooth, going via Celbridge around 1988. It ceased to operate in 2010 when it was merged into the regular route 67, which saw all departures extended to/from Maynooth. In 2021 the 67 became route C4 under Bus Connects. The current terminus is further up the Straffan Road, closer to the railway station.

RH 78 was delivered new to Dublin Bus in 1991. It was withdrawn in 2005 and later sold on to an operator in the UK.

Stanier Jubilee 45665 Lord rutherford of Nelson is stabled ex-works on Glasgow Corkerhill Shed (67A) in May 1957. Together with all of Corkerhill's Jubilee allocation, the loco was withdrawn from service at the end of December 1962. The loco had one of the longest Jubilee names, many of which were short, eg 45572 Eire.
