I can't wait to be able to see these beauties again in Florida. I love their dance moves when they are hunting but this one gave me a rare moment to pose. Taken in Fort de Soto, Florida.
Thank you for your visit and comments. They are very much appreciated.
I will be off Flickr for a few days as I have email issues to deal with.

I hadn't been to one of my favorite regional parks for a few weeks, so it was time to see who came in for winter. Lo and behold, there was a half-marathon scheduled. These little Ruddy Ducks were chugging right along too. Male in the middle, and a little fall color in the reflection.

Maned Duck
Chenonetta jubata
The Australian wood duck, also known as the maned duck or maned goose (Chenonetta jubata), presents a unique visage reminiscent of a diminutive goose. This species, measuring between 45 to 51 centimeters, is notable for its grazing habits and is typically observed in flocks.
The Australian wood duck favours grasslands, open woodlands, and wetlands, including flooded pastures and coastal inlets and bays. It thrives in agricultural landscapes with dams and is a common sight in urban parks and near rice fields, sewage ponds, and deeper lakes.
The Australian wood duck is a ground forager, rarely seen on open water, and shows a preference for dabbling in shallow water or grazing in grasslands and crops.
