Here's how the 2024 solar eclipse looked from the small town of Terrell, TX, population 18,000. My adventure included flying into Austin, heading south to San Antonio, then back north to Waco, Dallas, Rockwall, Paris, before deciding to come back south to Terrell. Then immediately after the eclipse, I drove straight through from Dallas to San Antonio. Total travel was 1,026 miles driven and 3,669 by air.
Lens is the 645 A* 600mm f/5.6 on the 645Z with a 1.4xTC. Filter was removed for this totality phase.
I had a series of small mishaps which caused me to only capture a handful of exposures during totality, so stacking/blending was very limited. I did my best.

From the gorgeous east bay hills above Walnut Creek, I met up with Laura and Lee Ann to observe comet C/2023 A3 Tsuchinshan–ATLAS. Laura had scouted a grand distant oak tree for a telephoto compression shot.
After dark, the comet appeared above the tree and descended generally along this route, but slightly left. Well, in all the confusion to grab my dark frames, flats and bias shots, I forgot to re-shoot the moonlit tree when it was looking its best.
So, this is a composite of the comet against the scene 1 hour earlier. Both were captured from the same position with the same focal length, 600mm using the A* 600/5.6 on the 645Z.
Those people under the tree were a surprise when I raised the shadows.

Kicking off "Milky Way season" 2020 with Miguel at Tioga Lake, CA. This is from early Monday morning.
That golden glow on the right horizon is light pollution from Fresno, 90 miles southwest. Far left is rising Venus. EXIF shows 9,684 ft elevation at this spot.
Lens is the DFA 25mm f/4 on the 645Z. This is a stacked median blend with composite exposure for the foreground, manually blended. I used 15, 8-sec star exposures at ISO 10,000 and a foreground exposure of 4 minutes, and fed them into Sequator for processing. The exposure is cranked because the only light on the mountain is coming from the stars. There is more than my usual amount of "movie magic" applied to this image, just sayin'.
Thanks Miguel for the outing! My son Parker also made his first photo trip with dad, so that was exciting. We spent much more time driving(social distancing in separate vehicles no less) than actually shooting, but it was well worth it! Though Dad loved it, Parker reports he will think twice before agreeing to any future journeys of this nature.

Returning to a favorite spot along the scenic California Delta, here as the last light of twilight reveal some magenta glow in the sky. If you ever pack up and leave after sunset and blue hour, try shooting a long exposure after dark and see what kind of saturation appears in the sky. It is my favorite way to shoot these scenes.
Lens is the FA 150mm f/2.8 on the 645Z.

2009 was the last and only time that I have visited the small town of Burdick, Kansas. Population around 60. It was sad to see that the old wooden elevator was gone. The old high school was in much worse shape than the last time I saw it. The old truck parked in front in 2009 was located about 15 feet to right of where it is now. This is a six image panorama made with a Pentax 645Z.
