Coal loads leave Minnesota and head for Superior, WI. I'm not sure if this was actually going to MERC or for Superior yard to recrew and go west to Cohasset. But what I can say is coal traffic has decreased a lot for the Lakes Sub now that is June 2026, the deadline for MERC in Superior.

On this day, I had just shot YIT61 crossing the Nejamdji River and knew an eastbound was coming off the Brainerd Sub before the Grand Rapids Turn departed. Given the time of day I had to really hustle to the 'State Line' to get some decent light on this eastbound and even found a sticker unit leading. BNSF 6163 and 1833 would meet each other at MP 15.9, 7 miles east of here.
