In the Intro to this cave mini-series, "dusk bat hunters" were mentioned [see "Deer Cave Entry ~ Kick-off Cave Series, Sarawak, Borneo"]

As such, on fine-weather dusks, some 2M+ bats fly out of Deer Cave, searching for insects to eat. The free-tailed bats are hard to see while inside the caves, as they mostly hang from the cave ceilings, sleeping, and are quite small.

The Left Hand Picture in the collage above shows a large stream of bats exiting at late dusk when ii is almost dark, at the end of our first day at the caves. Thus the photo is dark.

The Right Hand Picture shows the exit route for the main bat stream, as taken during the day: i.e. Deer Cave's Main Chamber ceiling hole, with the chamber 122m or 400 feet high from the cave floor. The hole, in also letting in a shaft of light, allows the rich green vegetation to thrive, and is thus referred to as the 'Garden of Eden' by the cave operators.

Other bats exit via a few other smaller ceiling holes depending on where they sleep.

From the only viewing platform outside, which is on flat ground, we saw the main bat stream featured above. Further away, other bat streams flew out of other openings not visible, with the bats very hard to see as they flew out and away.

The picture featured was then the best achievable one given the hilly and dense jungle terrain surrounding the caves.

The scene was amazing to see, and everyone at the viewing platform was excited and loved this unusual nature adventure :-)

This concludes the Cave Series, Hope you enjoyed it. :-)

Princess Street, Edinburgh from the Nelson Monument, a tall tower atop Calton Hill.

The monument, built by architect Robert Burn, offers high hopes on a good day of some excellent panormas of the surrounding Edinburgh New Town and Old Town, and well beyond to the road and rail bridges on the Firth of Forth. At 456 feet above sea level the Monument is highly visible from far off. 😀

The Castle of Santa Catalina and the Castle of San Sebastián, each at one end, close the cove. La Caleta is a good mooring corner for small fishing boats.

To the right, part of one of the walls of Poniente, of the fortress of Castillo Santa Catalina. In the background the Castillo San Sebastián where the Maritime Lighthouse of Cádiz is located and the tombstone that connects it with the city.

A Goldcrest / Un Roitelet huppé

The goldcrest is the smallest bird in Europe (5g). It is even smaller than a Wren (and 2-3 times smaller than a tit).

This one was in a forest under trees : I had only one opportunity to take this photo. The light was really poor, and he was moving fastly, that's why I had to use 25k ISO.

Photo Handled without stabilisation. I had a lot of difficulty to aim at him as he is so small. I tried to use a monopod but then he flew away ... Bad bad bad ... so bad !

Fomapan 100 developed in Rodinal 1+100, semistand 1 h.

Lith printed on Foma Retrobrom and developed in two baths:

1. Moersch Easy Lith

2. Homemade Lith Omega, turned up until meltdown...

It's interesting to experiment with chemistry. After some research I made this "Omega-like" soup and am trying to understand the use of it. 10 ml to 500 ml water made this (perhaps over the top?) coloring.

The most colorful Retrobrom I've managed to get, and the green shadows are still there.
