Bran Castle is famous for Dracula, probably one of the most famous fairy tales to come out of Romania. Dracula never actually existed but probably Vlad Tepes a famous warrior, who never lived at the castle, was the character behind the fairy tale.

This is a shot of the Spanish mission ruins at Quarai. This is one of the ruins that make up the Salinas Pueblo Missions National Monument. Definitely worth a stop if you ever come to New Mexico. (A article from the NY Times can be found here).

After our heatwave we've had lots of rain and quite dull weather and on our one forest walk I didn't get any decent shots. Tasku often lays nearby when I'm at the computer and I know she's watching me even when I'm not looking at her. I just managed to sneak this shot without her jumping up in anticipation of going into the garden.
Urquhart Castle. This is the 8th photo of my mini-series from my Scottish Highland trip in 2017 (called "On the road to Inverness, Scottish Highlands").
My cousin and I arrived at the castle with plenty of time to soak in the history and beauty of the scenic landscape, the castle is situated in, before sunset. After which, it was a short drive to lodgings in Inverness, and which, on this note, finishes this series. Hope you have enjoyed it. That said, there remain other shots from the same trip that I may call on sometimes.
In summary, Urquhart Castle is a ruined castle situated on a headland overlooking Loch Ness, 21 kms (or 13 miles) south-west of Inverness. It's one of the largest castles in Scotland in area.
Founded in the 13th century, Urquhart Castle played a role in the Wars of Scottish Independence in the 14th century with the English. It was subsequently held as an English royal castle and was raided on several occasions by the MacDonald Earls of Ross. The castle was granted to the Clan Grant in 1509, though conflict with the MacDonalds continued.
Despite a series of further raids the castle was strengthened, only to be largely abandoned by the middle of the 17th century. In the 20th century, it was placed in state care as a scheduled monument and opened to the public. It is now one of the most-visited castles in Scotland and receives over 500,000 visitors annually. This tiny butterfly made it difficult for me yesterday, flitting about and only stopping for a second or two - and never in the same place. Here it was really too high but it was the best I got.
