The county of Pieria is an area rich in attractions of great historical and archaeological interest to the visitor.
These attractions range from the wealth of findings at the Neolithic Settlement in Makrigialos through the remains of Pydna to the ruins of the City of Dion and the Castle at Platamonas. Monasteries and Churches are to be found in abundance, bearing witness to the extensive history of our area.
Mount Olympus, Titaros and the mountain range of Pieria, the coastal wetlands and the sea complete the integrated ecosystem of Pieria. Both taken as a whole and in its individual parts, the land of Pieria can be seen to be one of great environmental and natural wealth, with a particularly wide variety of plants and animals.
The prefecture of Pieria offers an ecological and aesthetic variety of great worth, a characteristic element in satisfying the most demanding visitor.

Black Rock, lies in Maingon Bay, a little to the south of Mount Brown on the Tasman Peninsula. South eastern Tasmania.
Cape Raoul in the background and faintly far off in the distance is Bruny Island and the Tasmanian mainland. West Arthur Head is the dolerite cliff to the right of the rock. A relatively calm day on the aptly named Storm Bay.
Storm Bay was so named by Dutchman Abel Janszoon Tasman (the first known European navigator to sail these waters) in 1642 when a storm forced his ships out to sea before they could anchor there.
An iPhone pic that while saved as a TIF, really didn't cut the mustard in colour or handle much by way of postwork on the conversion to BnW.

The Thermaic Gulf (Greek: Θερμαϊκός Κόλπος) is a gulf of the Aegean Sea located immediately south of the Thessaloniki regional unit, east of Pieria and Imathia, and west of Chalkidiki. It was named after the ancient town of Therma, which was situated on the northeast coast of the gulf (Therma was later renamed Thessalonica). Near Thessaloniki, the length (north-south) of the gulf is about 100 km, while its width (east-west) is about 5 km. The length of the gulf in its northern part (from its northern extent down to "megalo emvolo" cape) is estimated to stretch 15 km, while after "megalo emvolo" cape towards the south, its length extents a further 50 km. Cape Kassandra lies to the southeast end of the gulf.

7.62 x 54mm calibre Dragunov SVD Sniper Rifle
Sniper Shooting Range
Top Gun Prague,
Czech Republic 🇨🇿
After World War 2 and introduction of the Kalashnikov, Russia needed a new sniper rifle. Kalashnikov based design of Evgeniy Dragunov was selected in a design competition.
The new rifle was not designed as sniper rifle, but as an accurate rifle for ranges up to 400 metres. Such a rifle was needed while the Russian service rifle, the AK-47, has an effective range of around 100-200 metres.
The new rifle, called SVD, initially stood for ‘Semipolarnya Vintovka Dragunova’, Russian for ‘Dragunov semi-automatic rifle’.
When it was discovered that the SVD could also be used as a sniper rifle the name ‘Snayperskaya Vintovka Dragunova’, Russian for ‘Dragunov sniper rifle’ was adopted.
The SVD is better known as ‘the Dragunov’.

The Hadith claims that Muslims dress modestly and different than non-believers. Women in Cairo take this more seriously than men. Read more in my blog.
The Platamon Castle (Greek: το κάστρο του Πλαταμώνα) is a Crusader castle (built between 1204 and 1222) in northern Greece and is located southeast of Mount Olympus, in a strategic position which controls the exit of the Tempe valley, through which passes the main road connecting Macedonia with Thessaly and southern Greece. The tower (donjon), which overlooks the highway, is an imposing medieval fortress.
Important discoveries are the board of Hellenistic wall, that confirm the suggestion that on this position was theancient Greek city Herakleion and the gate in the wall of the donjon. The core of the city Herakleion remains to be found, but it is posited that it is located on the northwest side of the castle's hill due to shells and coins found during recent excavations.
