Santa Fe SD45 #5331 in fresh SPSF merger paint leads an Eastbound Intermodal train through Woodford in the Tehachapi's in April of 1986.
The walk from the parking lot of the Ecological Reserve to the Gannet Colony is only about a kilometer, but lots of little ups and downs over very rocky terrain. I had my gear on my back and did the trek in super heavy fog, wondering if there was any point, since I could see hardly see a thing.
Amazingly, the fog began to lift slowly as I got closer and eventually lifted to the point where the water (about 130 metres below) was visible. It’s one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen, even if the birds were not there.
