The sky and the snow bank were about the same colour in this shot. In addition the none white represents about 50% of the image. When I included the tree, it served a dual purpose.

Angles can represent strength in a photo and about 50% of it from this perspective, was snow covered. In other words, it matches the white and non white of the rest of the shot in terms of percentage.

I Walk by this tree on my evening dog walk. I've been working on different camera settings for at least a couple of years now. The tree appears a little different every night, depending on camera and lens settings, the angle of the light and time of year!

Ebbing tide

A nice jaunt to Magpie Mine last night as clear skies were forecast. I had planned on arriving later, but with the promise of a change of weather from cloudy to clear, I thought I'd make the effort and get there early just in case it all kicked off.

I was rewarded with a biblical sky and some sublime light as a snow shower passed through 10 minutes before the sun set. The sky behind the mine was nothing special but this tree behind me got well and truly lit up.

This is the first time in a long time that I've preferred the sunset shot over the after dark stuff which ensued.

I think I have heard you shouldn't split the frame down the middle like this but out of all the compositions the 50/50 split did it for me.
