Hacia finales del siglo X, el cristianismo comenzó a extenderse en la isla y entró en competencia con el paganismo. Para evitar cualquier conflicto entre
los islandeses, en el año 1000 los Althing decidieron adoptar una religión oficial.
Dejó la decisión al legislador pagano Þorgeir Þorkelsson, a quien tanto paganos como cristianos consideraban sabio y justo.
Después de retirarse por un día y una noche, decide que Islandia debe convertirse al cristianismo.
Þorgeir luego regresa a casa en el norte y, al pasar frente a la caída de Godafoss, decide dar el ejemplo arrojando los ídolos de los dioses antiguos (Odin y Thor en particular) al agua, ¡de ahí el nombre de Goðafoss! (Godafoss )

Der hochgotische 5/8 Chorschluß stammt aus dem endenden
13. Jh. Im Gegensatz zum Schiff haben die Fenster hier kein Maßwerk. Die zeitlose gotische Eleganz und die Tiefe Busung des Gewölbes läßt darauf schliesen, daß die Errichter Kenntnisse der französichen Gotik hatten. Die Glasmalereien erbrachte György Lehoczky, ein ungarischer Künstler, der in den 60er Jahren im Saarland eine Heimat fand. In seiner saarländischen Phase stattete er hier viele Kirchen aus.

Op 5 augustus 2017 reed de RRF 4402 een beladen biodieselketeltrein naar IJsselmonde, later die week zou de sleep naar de havens worden gebracht waar de trein zou worden gelost.

This was the first time I managed to catch a sufficiently intense show that included light blue and aqua colors...green, red and purple are the most common colors you can see. The orange at bottom right is light pollution reflecting on clouds, as is the orange at far lower left. All the other color is Lady Aurora putting on a show...

Norfolk Southern Railroad holds claim to the longest, in service railroad bridge in North America. The Lake Pontchartrain Bridge sails 5.8 miles over the open waters of the eastern end of the massive inland lake. On this pleasant late spring morning NS run-through train 345 completes the crossing behind a pair of Union Pacific pool power motors.
345 is a daily inter-railroad run through train that originates at Norfolk Southern's Norris Yard in Irondale, Alabama, (Birmingham), and terminates a few days later at Union Pacific railroad's large Englewood Yard in Houston, Texas. 345 is almost through with its run on Norfolk Southern, and upon arrival in New Orleans a Union Pacific crew will forward the train across town to begin their run towards Houston later that afternoon as UP train MNOEWB.
In this perspective the 10,980 feet of NS 345 looks more like a processional of ants as they cross the long Pontchartrain bridge into the city below sea level.
