Talking about the Pentacon 3.5/30 vintage lens. It may be half a century old, but optically it is a true 'generalist'. You can use it for any situation as long as the light is good. I prefer this lens to be wide open, as here. But that is a personal choice.

5/30: April 2019: A month in 30 pictures

I was out for the day today. We went to the Ideal Home Exhibition in Olympia. I took my camera and got this just in case shot on the train. I love the 'stupid little biscuit' that this company give with a drink. I love that it's pink too.

Blood Mountain is the highest elevation on the Georgia section of the Appalachian Trail. This is a very popular day hike despite the 1600 foot elevation gain in 2.5 miles of all uphill hiking. I usually avoid popular destinations but I decided to give it a go and I can see why its so popular. I set up at this southwest facing view to take in the light show as clouds raced across the sky casting an ever changing kaleidescope of shadow and light across the mountains. As the day progressed fog started setting in, making for a nice show, but guaranteeing a no show on sunset. I still watched the fog envelope the mountain at sunset and hiked out in the dark. A fine day on a beautiful mountain.

Two years ago we did a road trip from California to Utah. We drove along the Extraterrestrial Highway in Nevada, and stopped at the Little A'Le'Inn, located near the mysterious Area 51. An old truck is parked in front of the restaurant. It was very windy that night, and I had to take several shots until I got one where the flying saucer was not moving too much.

I processed a paintery and a balanced HDR photo from four RAW exposures, blended them selectively, and carefully adjusted the color balance and curves. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.

We shall not forget.

Today's edition of Armchair Traveling takes me back to 8 years ago when we were at the bus stop at 5:30 a.m. in Aguas Calientes to climb the mountain to the Machu Picchu ruins. Seeing the park in such fabulous light with almost no one else there was a privilege that I would not have missed. Only 5 of our group of 24 (4 men plus me) took advantage of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I always assume that I can sleep in when I get home...

I'm grateful that I have all my grandfather's First World War letters to his wife Gertrude, who he called "Birdie", and all her responses back to him.

You may remember that coffee cup from an earlier photo. It was my grandfather's favourite cup -- one from which he drank his morning coffee (when he wasn't away at war). He liked the fisherman image, as he found it restful.

This image is for the group Theme of the Week. This week's theme: Memories. It is also for the groups Grateful Daze and Gratitude Project, for which I'm attempting to post, for the month of November, a daily photo of something for which I'm grateful.

Today’s the day I retire from nursing. 36 years man and boy in the NHS. It’s been a great job but time to move in to pastures new.
