A remarkable butterfly with spectacular camouflage and one that I have been wanting to sight and photography for a while. This one closely resembels a dry leaf with dark veins and unless one knows where to look - is impossible to find. The other side is a mixture of bright yellowish orange and blue color - total contrast to this dry leaf camo.
We sighted this in a forest in the summer when they were dried leaf litter all around us. Luckily my friend sighted this leaf on a large tree and that is how we could tell there was a butterfly. Apparently, the bird has two forms, a dry season form as in this picture and a wet season form where the colors are richer and darker as if soaked in wetness. I haven't seen that form yet, but maybe next time.
