Durham, 3 December 2022. The first fortress here was around 1072 but little remains from before 1340. Construction of the cathedral started in 1093 and most was completed within forty years, although there have been later additions and alterations. The castle was really a bishop's palace with some fortification, but despite this it was the only northern castle never to fall to the Scots; it is now part of Durham University.

This view of the River Wear is taken from Prebends Bridge (which carries the private road known as South Bailey) and shows the Durham School Boat Club premises, including the red brick boat sheds. A weir runs at an angle across the river from the boat club, whilst Framwellgate Bridge is in the background.

Just looking after my carnivorous plants which I nurture for close-up photography groups and found this wasp sipping the tempting nectar at the lips of the pitcher plants. Any minute he threatened to make a false step but no, in the end he flew out and made good his escape.

The newest NS heritage unit, TAG 4851, leads train 264 along the Canisteo River at Browns Crossing, NY on April 7, 2025. It looks like a short train, but there were some empty well cars behind the stacks, then more loads.
