Happy 4th of July!

They had fireworks at a local beach where I live. Couldn't drive there because too much traffic. So I decided to walk (2 miles) but on the way there, I got distracted watching all the smaller fireworks so I didn't make it to the beach in time. I stopped by the side of the road and took a few shots.. messed up my exposure (way too long) and got too many fireworks in a shot. But it was a very nice show and I enjoyed it.

Looking at the underside of the wings on this green-banded peacock (Papilio palinurus), I can't help thinking the white scales look a bit like stars in the night sky.

This is one of my favourite species I've come across at the Haga Ocean butterfly house - especially the other side of the wings like here: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/52991594684/
