Vehicle History

4480 was built by the Birmingham Railway Carriage & Wagon Company (BRCW) in 1957 as part of lot 30227. It was one of this type of vehicle fitted out as a Second Open (SO) with 48 second class seats in an open plan layout (eight bays of four plus two, each side of a central aisle) rather than the more typical Tourist Second Opens (TSO) with 64 second class seats in an open plan layout (eight bays of four each side of a central aisle). 4480 was withdrawn by 1989.
