Bufflehead (m)
Buffleheads are North America’s smallest diving ducks, found near various water bodies.
They have a monogamous mating system and can live up to 2.5 years in the wild.
Their diet consists of invertebrates, mollusks, snails, shrimp, dragonflies, and damselfly nymphs.
Buffleheads have a conservation status of least concern, with a population of around 1.3 million.
These ducks are known for their striking plumage on males and quirky mating rituals.

As we head into the 4th of July Holiday Weekend, figure this was a timely picture to post. Celebrating our country, as troubled as it is right now, with the RWB. Also a nod to our Veterans who have worked to keep this country free as the MRL 4407 "Thank You Veterans Unit" screams through Drummond, MT last week.

One of the more popular locations between Springfield and New Haven for many photographers is the John Street overpass in Wallingford. Looking north offers a nice view of southbound trains, with the iconic steeple of Most Holy Trinity Church in the background. A handful of my favorite shots of Connecticut Southern, CTrail, and Amtrak have been taken here. Although the freights now run under the cover darkness, this location is still great for capturing passenger traffic. On a winter's afternoon in January, GP40-3H 6698 heads a four-car set of stainless steel Mafersa coaches, operating as CTrail 4407 towards Union Station in New Haven.
