Honeymoon Bay, Freycinet National Park, Tasmania.
This is a very tiny, gorgeous bay on the southern side of Tasmania. It reminded me of the Blue Lagoon with its sapphire-coloured water, except there were no naked people swimming-well not while I was there.
A little piece of paradise.

La saison des sorties flashs reprennent tranquillement.
Me voici en cette belle soirée du 20.09.2024 sur la ligne de l'Artère-Nord-Est.
Les 1341 et 1338 sont en tête du 40320 MA100 Bâle-St-Jean 11h10 > Jeumont frontière 22h10....La Ferté-sur-Chiers 20h05.
Op de stream van bevriende spoorwegfotograaf L2527. be zag ik onlangs een foto uit Tubize, langs lijn 1 – zeg maar uit mijn eigen achtertuin. De plek kende ik wel, zelfs al sinds mijn begindagen als spoorwegfotograaf, maar ik had ze nog nooit benaderd vanuit die avondlijke hoek. Het was meteen duidelijk: daar moest ik zelf ook werk van maken.
Toen zich op de zonnige, zomerse eerste mei een kans voordeed om nog eens een uurtje langs de lijn te gaan staan, greep ik die natuurlijk met beide handen aan. Helaas reed ik recht een zone met sluier- en middelhoge bewolking binnen. Echt waar: amper 10 kilometer verderop, in mijn woonplaats meer naar het oosten, was er nog geen wolkje te bespeuren. De wolken schoven tergend traag voorbij en ik vroeg me af of het nog wel goed zou komen.
De eerste trein richting Londen kwam alvast netjes in het zonnetje voorbij – een goede start. Een dik kwartier later was het planmatig de beurt aan de Eurostar naar Parijs, gevolgd door de TGV naar Lille, vier minuten later. Maar amper vijf minuten na mijn eerste foto verdween de zon achter een middelhoge wolk.
Gelukkig had de Eurostar richting Parijs zo’n tien minuten vertraging, want anders was die zeker in de schaduw gepasseerd. Terwijl ik wachtte op de TGV naar Lille, gebeurde er iets onverwachts: de wolk vervormde, er ontstond een opening, het zonlicht brak even door – maar nét niet lang genoeg, want precies toen de trein in zicht kwam, verdween het licht weer.
Gelukkig ging het bij de herkansing met de rode Eurostar wél goed. Het licht was door de sluierwolken wat zachter geworden, maar met een beetje nabewerking viel dat prima te corrigeren.

While watching the stream of fellow railway photographer L2527 .be, I came across a photo from Tubize, right along line 1 — basically my own backyard. It was a spot I’ve known since my early days, but I’d never approached it from that evening angle before. So when a sunny May 1st offered a chance to head trackside, I jumped on it.
I had high hopes, but the weather had other plans. I drove straight into a patch of high and mid-level clouds. Just 10 km east, in my hometown, skies were still clear. The clouds moved painfully slowly, and I started to wonder if I’d get any sunlight at all.
Still, I set up and waited, hoping for a break. The first train to London came through perfectly lit — a good start that gave me some optimism. About fifteen minutes later, the Eurostar to Paris was due, followed closely by a TGV to Lille. But five minutes after my first shot, the sun slipped behind a cloud.
It became a bit of a waiting game. The sun peeked through briefly as the TGV approached but faded again just before it arrived — frustratingly close. Luckily, the red Eurostar was delayed by ten minutes, so my third attempt paid off. The light was slightly muted by thin clouds, but easy enough to correct in post.
