Carmen shows Cody in his conformation class at the 4-H Dog Show during the Washakie County Fair. He won first in conformation. Cody is a wonderful "mutt" that we adopted from our local humane society 4 years ago!

I took this photo at an agricultural fair and posted it in 2012. I just downloaded it and tweaked the editing. Thought I'd share it again.

I love agricultural fairs!

State 4-H Public Speaking Contest

Susan Garey, Animal Science Extension Agent and a group of expert volunteers and camp counselors held a day-and-a-half overnight cow camp to hone skills for youth involved in FFA, 4-H and who are also Junior Showman at the Delaware State Fair. Some campers have access to cows on their family farm, others lease them for a year, or in some instances, borrow to take care of a heifer during the camp. Experienced or not, these young campers enjoy the opportunity to get to know their calves, learn about biosecurity, animal welfare, advocating their personal ag story, animal health, grooming and showmanship. For campers participating in the Delaware State Fair, this camp is excellent preparation. For more information visit:http://extension.udel.edu/4h/projects-activities-for-members/4-h-animal-science/

4-H is a global network of youth organizations whose mission is "engaging youth to reach their fullest potential while advancing the field of youth development." They do this by learning through service. A 4-H group known as the O.W.L.S., Outdoor Wildlife Leadership Service, visited Brandon Spring Group Center at Land Between The Lakes in May 2016. O.W.L.S. educates kids on a variety of outdoor, survival, and identification skills. These include wildlife tracking, studying avian populations, Dutch oven cooking, and ice cream making. These 4-H’ers planted a butterfly garden, weeded flowerbeds, and helped with trail work and maintenance projects. Photo by Emily Cleaver
