Somebody says this isn't photografy, it's true, but not through and through. Yes, I haven't used any camera, but I've worked on lights, focus, composition, zoom, point of view... these are the reasons that motivated me to post this picture.

Bookcase with the word ROMAN (from bottum to top). Roman in the Dutch word for "novel". Designed by Marcel Douwe Dekker, Rotterdam 2000-01. This particular book case was the last design of a line of interior sculptures constructed with letter shapes.

DE BOEKEN IN DE EIGEN BOEKENKAST
Studieverhalen - Uit de kunst - Een serie korte verhalen over het eigen kunstenaarschap hier op Flickr wenst hieromtrent meer helderheid te geven. Het volgende verhaal gaat om de inhoud van de eigen boekenkast, de literatuur en de inspirerende uitwerking daarvan op het eigen leven en werk.
De boeken in m'n boekenkast herbergen een geheim van stille verlangens, diepere drijfveren die m'n leven richting hebben gegeven. Maar die mij ook hebben verpest, mij van een goed bestaan hebben afgehouden, van een productief leven. Of zo lijkt dat in ieder geval...!? Laat ik hier echter bij het begin beginnen.
Directe aanleiding
Een verhaal van afgelopen week is begonnen over de oorsprong van het eigen kunstenaarschap, met name over de verwikkelingen rond het jaar 1990. [1] In die tijd heeft het eigen conceptuele kunstenaarschap vorm gekregen. Wat dat verhaal echter niet meldde was, waarom dat eigenlijk zo nodig moest. Wat had en heb ik te zoeken in het kunstenaarschap, terwijl daar allang niemand meer om vraagt?
Waar ik hier nu mee wil beginnen is die eerste vraag. Wat dreef me tot de kunst? Waar haalde ik m'n motivatie en inspiratie vandaan? Een antwoord hierop valt af te lezen in m'n boekenkast. Of eigenlijk hoe, die gevuld is geraakt, en wanneer? Dit is nu best moeilijk na te gaan. want ik heb praktisch geen documentatie hierover. Of dat dacht ik in ieder geval?
Tot m'n stomme verbazing bevatte een technisch tekening een overzicht van m'n boekenverzameling in 1983. [2] Dit bevatte toen naast studieboeken en paar soorten avonturenboeken: Arendsoog, Alistair MaClean en Desmond Bagley. Ik kon daar uren voor gaan zitten en ze soms in een ruk uitlezen. De man met de twee gezichten, was een van de eerste boeken, die me altijd is bijgebleven. Over een man die ontwaakt in Stockholm en dan z'n eigen gezicht niet meer herkend.
In die tijd had ik de literatuur nog niet ontdekt, maar dat begon met de romantische werken als Koelen meren der Doods van Frederick van Eeden, en de Stille kracht van Louis Couperus. Het eindeloos verlangen van Arthur van Schendel, de wereld een dansfeest , een zwerver verliefd, de kleine Johannes. Maar hiermee loop ik op de zaken vooruit.
Een geschiedenis van m'n literaire eetlust
M'n literaire geschiedenis heeft diverse fases gehad. Hier volgt een overzicht.
Tot m'n vijftiende las ik slechte strips en stripboeken, en dan nog keek ik voornamelijk plaatsjes. ik verzon daar veelal zelf wel een verhaal bij. De dyslexie heeft daarbij zeker een rol gespeeld. Later heb ik al die stripboeken zelfs nog verzameld in de tweede hands boekenwinkel Delfshaven. Daar was ik kind aan huis. Maar eerder had ik dat met de rommelmarkt in Delft, met de Novib derde serie spreker boeken voor weinig.
Bij de verplichte boekenlijst schoot m'n zus te hulp, en die maakte een lijstje voor me. Don Juan en de laatste nimf, lekker dun. Willem Elschot Kaas, best lachen. Tessa de Loo's Meander, ontroerend. Van geluk gesproken, best schokkend, of heb ik dat pas later gelezen? Ik had de boekenlijst helemaal afgewerkt, en kreeg daarover een mondeling examen. De lerares in kwestie ging er echter al vanuit, dat ik het niet gelezen had. Maar dat heeft me niet ontmoedigd.
Het was in de eerste maanden op de HTS, dat ik in de boekenkast van m'n zus ging kijken of daar niet nog wat te lezen stond. Daar vond ik de Koelen Meren des Doods, die me meevoerden naar een schemerig landhuis aan een meer. het was echt zo'n eye-opener.
Eenmaal in Delft op de Roland Holstlaan was er een grote Delftse natuurkunde-student Roelof Hadders, die me interesseerde in het humanistisch verbond, en me trakteerde op boeken als van Chaim Potok en Celine, Louis-Ferdinand Céline. Tegen de tijd dat k daar aan toe was, was Belle Ami van Guy de Maupassant al een favoriet.
Het was met de verhuizing naar de Delftse binnenstad, dat ik tegen Aarde der Mensen opliep van Pramoedya Ananta Toer, en dan het vervolg: Kind van alle Volken, tot het Glazen Huis. Ook Mijn Mercedes is groter van de Nigeriaanse Nkem Nwanko maakte indruk. Miguel Street van V.S. Naipaul. Honderd Jaar eenzaamheid van Gabriel García Márquez.
Van Erik Brus moet ik eind jaren 1980 de jonge Amerikaanse literatuur gaan lezen van Paul Auster, en... tja. Maar terug naar de eerste jaren in Rotterdam. Ergens had ik Herman Hesse ontdekt, en dat was het helemaal...!? Narcis en Goldmund en De Steppenwolf...
De gedachten is best overdonderend aan al die schrijvers, die boeken en de vrienden, die mee hieromtrent wat meegaven.

About The ancient : 11 Photos shot around Terengganu, Malaysia. A 3d building created using 3d Studio Max 9. Paint the grass a bit, mist, creeping plants, shadow and lighting, composed and post processing in Adobe Photoshop CS3.
