3: photos on Flickr

So I found out about Lightroom 3 beta last night. Its a free trial that's open to public download and will work until april 2010. They promised improved vignettes and watermarking and some other jazz.

So I downloaded Lr3 promptly. and I threw in this picture to give it a quick test. And I can't say that I'm overwhelmed with whatever Scott whatshisface was so excited about. I mean this picture isn't right for testing the vignette feature (which does look very promising from a video they posted actually). I played around and threw in a really dark one.

The watermark is a work in progress. This one was supposed to be opaque white, I'm not sure why its grey. I'll have to tinker with it more. Unfortunately it doesn't actually show the watermark very well in the preview, unless there is a way to zoom in that I wasn't aware of. It was too small to see the opaqueness on the preview. And I opened this photo in photoshop quickly to do a quick clone stamp because I can't figure out Lr's clone stamp. And I'm disappointed with the watermark right now. But I'll fix it later. Hey as long as I don't have to rely on photoshop for it in general I'm happy, even if its imperfect.

Now I'm back to my main problem. Its SLOW. They mentioned that it should work faster on those videos. It doesn't. And its mostly my computer's fault, its old, has a shitty graphics card (so my boyfriend tells me) and some other junk. I just thought that if the program itself was a little faster it'd save me some headache, even on the slow computer. Nope. I don't have the patience to go back and fix the watermark because its so damn slow. I'll do it another time.

So yah those are my thoughts. The fact that they changed "grayscale" to B&W... who doesn't know what grayscale means? Or at least what person that's been introduced to photo editing software for some time doesn't know it?

I know it isn't "finished" yet, but it feels like for a whole new version - this is 3, not 2.5 mind you - there isn't enough that's different to be soooo excited as those photoshop video dudes are.

But as much as I criticize it, I still love Lr dearly, it really has changed the way I work with my images and makes my life much easier. At least when its working at a half-decent speed and not crashing all over the place.
