La cantera donde se esculpían los moáis y donde todavía hay 397 moáis inconclusos de diferentes etapas, y sin duda, muchos más que están totalmente sepultados. A tener en cuenta que un equipo de escultores, bajo la dirección de un maestro, podría tardar dos años en esculpir un moái grande. Los moáis que se rompían se abandonaban, había que esculpir otro nuevo para remplazarlo.

Este lugar es uno de los platos fuertes de Rapa Nui, y su visite merece más tiempo que ningún otro sitio. Es muy recomendable acudir a este lugar fuera de las horas de visita habituales, ya que hay mucho para ver y contemplar. Una vez en este lugar el camino se bifurca, el camino de la izquierda va al cráter y el de la derecha a la cantera, nosotros tomamos el de la derecha y tras una breve ascensión llegamos a la denominada “área de labrado” donde encontramos hileras de moáis inconclusos.
