The morning forecast called for more snow and rain in the area around Lee Vining and the road over Tioga Pass to Yosemite was closed, so we headed south on Highway 395. First stop, along McGee Creek Road, looked east across Crowley Lake to the snow and cloud covered White Mountains.

I was trying to come up with a Reason to visit Highway 395 this Fall… think I Found One on my Hard Drive :-)
U.S. Route 395 is a U.S. Route in the western United States. The southern terminus of the route is in the Mojave Desert at Interstate 15 near Hesperia, California
The northern terminus is at the Canada–US border near Laurier, where the road becomes Highway 395 upon entering British Columbia, Canada. At one time, the route extended south to San Diego. I-15 replaced the stretch of 395 that ran from San Diego to Hesperia. "Old Highway 395" can be seen along or near I-15 in many locations before it branches off at Hesperia to head north.
The route runs through the U.S. states of California, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington. US 395 runs along the Eastern Sierra in the Owens Valley and crosses through the Modoc Plateau along its routing.

Driving down the 395 along the east side of the Sierra Mountains always gets me hyped knowing there are so many landscape formations and other features to photograph, some just right off the road.

Omdat het met ingang van de nieuwe dienstregeling gedaan is met de inzet van de 218 in dubbeltractie op het traject van Stuttgart naar Ulm ben ik twee dagen rond Geislingen an der Steige op pad geweest om deze treinen vast te leggen. Per dag zijn er in theorie twee treinparen te bewonderen, namelijk IC 118/119 van en naar Innsbruck via Lindau, en IC 2012/2013 van en naar Oberstdorf. Op de eerste druilerige dag kwam er in de praktijk niet overdreven veel terecht van deze theorie. Twee treinen reden met de 218ers waarvan de eerste met flinke vertraging, één trein was uitgevallen en de laatste reed met een 101 (wel de 101 066 “Einziganders”), maar door wederom flinke vertraging was deze trein qua licht alleen nog maar vast te leggen tijdens de stop te Göppingen.
De tweede dag was bijna strak blauw met een enkel fotowolkje. Mooi natuurlijk, maar in dit jaargetijde geeft dat wel een uitdaging tussen de heuvels...
Als derde van de vier treinen zou de IC118 uit Innsbruck moeten komen. Theoretisch zou het door de vertraging van de tweede trein niet meer lukken om naar een geschikte fotoplek te komen. Maar omdat deze derde trein óók vertraging had zou het net moeten gaan. Dus snel naar het naburige Amstetten waar het net zou goed kwam.

Took this one above the 395 overpass. Managed to get this fence on the over pass bridge in the foreground of the shot. Used the Cool Matte preset in Lightroom and worked from there on post from that.
CN 395 grinds upgrade at Copetown with CN 5794 leading the charge and 172 cars. Of note, recently reactivated BCOL 4620 trails third.
