I'm not sure if he was shooting the Tractors ( Class 37's ) or

6201 Princess Elizabeth.

In order.... 37669,6201 support coach 96175 & 37668.

The cavalcade stopped in Bank Quay whilst "Hot Box" checks were made. the guy riding in 6201 must have been perished,on an open foot plate and no fire in the grate....

The Princess was minus her Piston and Connecting rods, presumably they where in the support coach.

37521 (D6817) + 37667 (D6851) taken at Promised Land Lane, Rowton working 1Z23 1335 Llandudno to Crewe private charter. The 37's took over at Chester with the 40 still attached to the rear at this point. Pole shot.

Following the yellow road down to 68020 resting at York, taken on an excellent evening of railway photography, which not only included plenty of class 68 action but the 37’s under the magnificent roof of York Station.

Booked for hired in DRS class 37's at the time, 20308+20311 struggle past Duffryn with Freightliner's 4S81 18.20 Pengam-Coatbridge on 16/06/98. A 37 had failed and was left at Pengam causing an hour delay.

DRS 37425 & 37422 lean to the canted curve at Golborne Dale this evening with the lightly loaded 6K05 daily Carlisle - Crewe Basford Hall engineers train.

* Was beginning to think we would never see 37's working 6K05 again after many occasions where our hopes were raised only to see a 66 put on the point late in the day.

Todays pairing of 37425 'Concrete Bob' and 37422 only worked the train I believe because they were being given a test prior to Friday's 'Easter Highlander' Railtour from Skipton.

* Pole @ 8m.

Despite the pessimistic forecast, the Cumbrian Coast was totally clear from mid afternoon until sunset, which was ideal today as both the monthly test train and an extra Heysham flask service was operating. 37116 is seen doing the honours again, this time at Holmegate Farm, working 1Q47 Derby - Carlisle. 37421 was on the rear. I had not been to this location for some years, since the 37's finished on passenger workings. In that time, both lines have been relayed with CWR, and the familiar sound of wheels over jointed track is a thing of the past, at this location at least.

Having worked its train up the S&C earlier in the day, 45690 'Leander' disgraced itself at Carlisle before departure leading to 47804 being dispatched from Carnforth as 0Z47 to drag the stricken train back to Hellifield, where a pair of 37's awaited.

the 'Duff' is seen dragging 'Leander' and its train as 1Z47 17.34 Carlisle to York past the gallery of three at Garsdale on 10/7/2022

Another Pacer shot from earlier this year taken whilst out chasing 37's. 143610 departs Lisvane & Thornhill station with a Penarth bound service, as the sky is illuminated purple over Cardiff.

Class 37's Nos. D6851 (37667) and 37688 work away from St. Germans with a LSL private charter, 1Z32 09.57 Bristol East Yard to Penzance, on 4th April 2021.

Exclusive location I've been after with this working, perks of the job...

Taken on the 7th April 2025.

After being held up behind two late running northbound Pendo's occupying both down platforms at Warrington Bank Quay, WCRC 37669 & 37706 find a window of sun on a sombre day and make the noise only a pair of EE 37's can approaching Winwick Junction this afternoon.

The Pathfinder Tours penultimate Railtour had started at Oxford and ran via Gloucester and Shrewsbury to Chester. In true Pathfinder tradition a £25 Mini Tour was tacked on and ran via WCML to Lostock Hall Jct and on to Blackburn. The 37's took on Copy Pit to Todmorden and thence Calder Valley route to Manchester and back to Chester.

*Pole @ 8m, heavy wire removed.

With the Humber bridge prominent in the background 37419 and 37401 top and tail the 3J51 10:00 York Thrall Europa to York Thrall Europa RHTT working .

Having been clouded out on my first attempt to see the 37's in Yorkshire, I was rather pleased to get this one in fine winter sunshine on the second attempt, the EE veterans making a fine sight and sounds as they travelled along the Humber shoreline.

The working should have returned this way a few hours later but instead was routed directly back to York via the ECML.

There may also be just enough time left to secure a copy of the '50 Years of Phoenix' book. An excellent Christmas present for anyone with an interest in alternative railway photography.

15/04/22 North Staffs Junction: DRS Class 68 68007 is photographed thundering (and I mean thundering) north on Good Friday working 1Z11 05:00 Eastleigh - Skipton 'The Easter Highlander' Day 1. From Skipton a pair of Class 37's would take over for the leg to Paisley Gilmour Street. Over the weekend the train would visit Oban and Aberdeen before returning back south on Easter Monday.

It was nice to be able to take a break from unpacking, decorating and working to make my first visit to one of my new local spots.

A rare sight these days, Ratcliffe power station at work, the damp heavy weather meaning the steam from the cooling towers stays low.

The rain has stopped as the "Sinfin Syphon" a rail tour organised by the Branchline society enters the spur to run up to the East Midlands Gateway Freight depot. Top and tailed by Class 37's 37423 Spirit of the Lakes (out of view) and 37422 Victorious. 03-07-2021

Jacksonville's historic downtown square, known as Central Park, is divided by Main St. on its north and south sides, and State St. on its east and west sides. This view shows the historic buildings on South Central Park Plaza, east of S. Main St. The six buildings shown here, including the building on the east side of S. Mauvaisterre St. on the left, all contribute to the Jacksonville Downtown Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2018.

From right to left, the historic names and dates of the six buildings are Frances Stubbins Watchmaker & Jewelry (c. 1890), Woolworth Building (c. 1890), Brady Bros. Hardware (c. 1890), J. B. Johnson Pianos & Women's Clothing (c. 1890), and Hoffman Bros. (c. 1892). The sixth building, seen across S. Mauvausterre St., is the Farrell State Bank (c.1920). Four of the six buildings are commercial designs. The two exceptions are the first two buildings west of Mauvausterre St. which are Richardsonian Romanesque and Italianate designs.

Founded in 1825, the City of Jacksonville is the seat of Morgan County. The central Illinois city had a population of 17,616 at the 2020 census.

Under the cover of darkness, 37099 "Merl Evans 1947-2016" with fellow classmate 37254 attached to the rear, pause in Taunton after arriving on the 1Z18 15.40 Paignton-Taunton via Bristol. The tractor was awaiting departure with the 1Q19 18.57 to Paddington, the last long stretch of the day which began at Reading at 06.11.

A pair of fine tractors on this monthly diagram is very rare (and I believe the use of 37's was possibly a first), it normally been allocated to the NMT or Colas' 67 fleet.

37424 'Avro Vulcan XH558' growls past Ely Dock Junction as the tractors take the Soham line on 2nd June 2021. While the conditions on Wednesday were not as favourable as the previous day, the sun dodged the clouds in time for the 37's to head east towards the Southend line.

37884 'Cepheus' had a busy week working travelling north from Derby to Kilmarnock to work a stock move in Scotland, before returning south the next day to perform the same function in the midlands.

The 37's are verging on 60 years of age but are still operationally useful locomotives, with Colas, DRS, LSL and RoG among those making use of the venerable English Electrics.

4th April 2021.

Yesterdays RHTT service with pair of veteran class 37's, 37218 and 37419 (which was inside the tunnel) made a particularly spirited departure from Knaresborough. Dad is seen here capturing the scene on his smartphone and his son gets to experience the sight and sounds (and exhaust fumes) that were all too familiar when these locomotives were built in the 1960's.

I included just a tad of a pan here to try and show the pace of the acceleration.

Rumours abound that the end for Class 37 haulage on the Rhymney line could be as early as 3rd February. Here 37418 makes its way into Cardiff Queen Street working 2R20 17:01 Cardiff Central to Rhymney.

Making a welcome contrast to the overall Summer greens Colas Rail 37254 'Cardiff Canton' and 37612 haul the circular Derby RTC Test Train through Barrow upon Trent on June 12th 2023.

Having blagged my way on to the platform it didn't take me long to find the two 37's rumbling away on the RHTT service in the sidings adjacent to Platform 6. 37401 would receive a good wash overnight which would have made this image a little brighter, so perhaps the filthy locomotive matched the weather a little better.

'Kittiwake' doesn't appear to have ventured far since I last photographed it back in 2017. On that occasion the 37's still held sway on the Cumbrian coast. Today class 156 units dominate proceedings.

The afternoon empty flask train from Sellafield to Crewe runs alongside the golf course at Seascale on the Cumbrian coast led by a pair of Direct Rail Services (DRS) ex-European Passenger Services (EPS) Class 37's, #37605 leads #37606; on Thursday the 3rd of July 2003

.#37605 succumbed to the cutters torch in August 2023, but #37606 is still intact and active, occasionally; on the main line and is fast approaching her "Old Age Pension"!

If Carlsberg did train fots...

On 07/02/19 6Z37 1210 Shirebrook WH Davies-Crewe CLS was due to run, using 37407 & 37403. Around midday odd blue holes began to appear, so i had a little hope, but upon leaving the house looking at the sky, my hope had faded. 5 minutes later getting out the car, a line of blue sky was lining up with the sun, hope returns and a panicked run to the bridge was made. Unbelievably it just held on long enough to bag the pair of large logo 37's with a mega consist of 8 new nuclear flask wagons. As i got to the bridge there was a rainbow in the distance, if only that had lasted a bit longer !

Not quite the same angle here. but gives a bit of a now & then view:

It's that time of the year again when the leaves fall and the trains slip. This means the Railhead Treatment Train is out daily for a few months with 37's doing the dirty work (literally). Here Colas Rail 37099 leads 3J51 York - York with 37254 on the rear between Cottingham and Hull.

Europhoenix Class 37's, 37800 "Cassiopeia" and 37884 "Cepheus" run across the River Wye at Chepstow as they return to Wales a few weeks after their last visit. 0W78 09:14 Leicester Loco Inspection Point to Cardiff Brickyard Siding.

The 'classic' shot at the old Manchester Victoria, a location I would say sadly missed. In BR grey large logo livery, Class 37's, No's 37680 and 37679 open up for the climb up Miles Platting on a Hope Street to Tunstead e/stone working. 14 May 1988 (MF.040.013).

I know what you're all thinking... he's posting flats!!! And yes, I am, but when there's 2x heritage liveried 37's on the Blyth & Tyne that ''rule'' somehow goes out the window.

Had it been a 66, I would still have been asleep... it's funny how a different type of traction can suddenly make an otherwise boring move like this seem somewhat exciting.

Anyways, after an early rise from bed at 05:30am, we see Europhoenix 37407 'Blackpool Tower' & 37901 'Mirrlees Pioneer' working 6Z50, the 06:26 North Blyth to Wembley Receptions 1-7 wagon move, thrashing passed the gallery of 4 dedicated but mad photters at Newsham! 21/08/2024.

With 37025 up front, the 37's thrash away from the station stop with the 3Z12 11.00 driver training run from Rhymney to Cardiff Canton.

156427 approaches Nethertown on a perfect day back in June 2018. We were here of course to capture the 37's but even a humble unit makes a good shot as such a location. Nethertown beach is mainly shingle, with a broad strip of sand exposed at low-tide. Behind the beach are grassy dunes through which runs the single-track coastal railway line. Between the railway track and the beach are a scattering of chalets and beach bungalows.

Bayerische Flugzeugwerke (Bavarian Aircraft Works) developed the Messerschmitt Bf 108 Taifun. It was a German built designed as a two-seat sports/recreation aircraft for competition in the 4th Challenge de Tourisme Internationale (1934). It was an all metal construction. Later, the Messerschmitt Bf 109 fighter plane used many of the same design features.

The Taifun was originally known as the M 37. It’s prototype flew first in spring 1934 which received its power from a 250 hp Hirth HM 8U inverted-V piston engine, which drove a three-bladed propeller. Although it did not win the competition it was primarily designed to win since the competition demanded lighter aircraft. The M 37’s swift performance made it a popular choice for record flights. Several Bf 108s had set new endurance records soon after the first production aircraft began to roll off the assembly line in Augsburg. German pilot Elly Beinhorn flew a Bf 108A, named “Taifun” (typhoon) from Berlin to Constantinople in one day that was seriously an accomplishment. It led Messerschmitt to apply the name “Taifun” to all subsequent production models of the Bf 108.

I've previously uploaded a pic here of two matching Inter City 37's on the ICI's, so how about a matching pair of RFD 'split-box' 37's ?

The hot news today was that DRS had rostered a pair of 37's for 6K05 and it had a decent loading.

Already seventy minutes down leaving Kingmoor this pairing (which do not see a lot of use) according to the gen 37401 shut down soon after leaving Carlisle. Cutting out the Hellifield stop gained 20 mins but by the time they passed us under clearing skies they were still 70L.

* I note they stopped for 35 mins in the goods loop at Warrington Bank Quay awaiting a driver and eventually arrived at Basford Hall 143L!

* A rapidly growing lineside tree has been removed from the image, one more on the list for the 'Elves' in Autumn.

The second of the two Class 37 locos currently in residence at Kirkby Stephen is 37 146. This Type 3 was outshopped from the Vulcan Foundry, Newton-le-Willows in 1963 as D6846. The loco entered traffic that June at Cardiff Canton Depot.

In 1974, in accordance with the new British Rail T.O.P.S numbering system, it became 37 146

In August 1999 this loco travelled through the channel tunnel to become 1 of 40 Class 37's used for infrastructure work at Eurre in the south of France.

It was taken to Tyne Yard, Newcastle in September 2000 to be stored and remained there until purchased for preservation by the Stainmore Railway Co. in April 2007.

The locomotive needs very little work to return to working order and will be restored in BR blue livery as 37 146.

Interestingly English Electric incorporated the same Co-Co bogies into the Class 37 as were fitted to their contemporary ‘’Deltic’’. Therefore, on a Class 37 bogie, one is able to observe the fittings for the Deltic's cab steps, and vice-versa, the bogies being interchangeable between the classes.

Colas operated Class 37's Nos.37421 with 37116 on the rear are working 3Q93 08:45 Derby R.T.C.(Network Rail) - Derby R.T.C.(Network Rail) via High Marnham at Ratcliffe on Soar. 10-08-2023.

For a few months in the spring and summer of 2018 one of the loco hauled diagrams on the Cumbrian Coast was placed in the hands of top and tailed class 68's, possibly as a result of poor reliability from the 37 fleet.

On the 7th June 68003 and 68017 approach Nethertown with the 2C33 15:31 Barrow-In-Furness to Carlisle. By the time of the RHTT season both diagrams were back in the hands of 37's up until the end of the loco hauled operations on December 28th.
