The Jonathan Child House, located at 37 S. Washington St. was constructed 1837-1838 by Jonathan Child (1785–1860), Rochester's first mayor and son-in-law of the city's founder Nathaniel Rochester. It features a monumental two story portico and is a fine example of the Greek Revival style.

The cavalcade stopped in Bank Quay whilst "Hot Box" checks were made. the guy riding in 6201 must have been perished,on an open foot plate and no fire in the grate....

The Princess was minus her Piston and Connecting rods, presumably they where in the support coach.

* A picture I had in mind for a long time but the conditions had to be right. I had been called out to a fault in Warrington Telephone Exchange which I had cleared by 06.20 and as I walked out into the car park they were rumbling past Arpley Jct box. The sky was clear and no wind, question was could I beat it to Carterhouse? A clear road through Penketh and Cuerdley Cross to park up on Tanhouse Lane ... and yes I did have my camera in the boot!

A sprint past the Paraquat plant to the crossing by the box and onto the swing bridge. The 37's had passed Fiddlers Ferry and the headlights were glowing, question was how do I expose for this? (no chimping in those days) The Canon F1 had a reliable spot meter and I got a reading from the cooling towers 125th F2.8 ... no time to change my mind they were on me, press the shutter once (no multi-shot) and that was it. The roll was processed by Kodak at Hemel Hemptead and was back several days later and yes, result, a valued image was recorded.

Booked for hired in DRS class 37's at the time, 20308+20311 struggle past Duffryn with Freightliner's 4S81 18.20 Pengam-Coatbridge on 16/06/98. A 37 had failed and was left at Pengam causing an hour delay.

Despite the pessimistic forecast, the Cumbrian Coast was totally clear from mid afternoon until sunset, which was ideal today as both the monthly test train and an extra Heysham flask service was operating. 37116 is seen doing the honours again, this time at Holmegate Farm, working 1Q47 Derby - Carlisle. 37421 was on the rear. I had not been to this location for some years, since the 37's finished on passenger workings. In that time, both lines have been relayed with CWR, and the familiar sound of wheels over jointed track is a thing of the past, at this location at least.

Having been clouded out on my first attempt to see the 37's in Yorkshire, I was rather pleased to get this one in fine winter sunshine on the second attempt, the EE veterans making a fine sight and sounds as they travelled along the Humber shoreline.

The working should have returned this way a few hours later but instead was routed directly back to York via the ECML.

Jacksonville's historic downtown square, known as Central Park, is divided by Main St. on its north and south sides, and State St. on its east and west sides. This view shows the historic buildings on South Central Park Plaza, east of S. Main St. The six buildings shown here, including the building on the east side of S. Mauvaisterre St. on the left, all contribute to the Jacksonville Downtown Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2018.

From right to left, the historic names and dates of the six buildings are Frances Stubbins Watchmaker & Jewelry (c. 1890), Woolworth Building (c. 1890), Brady Bros. Hardware (c. 1890), J. B. Johnson Pianos & Women's Clothing (c. 1890), and Hoffman Bros. (c. 1892). The sixth building, seen across S. Mauvausterre St., is the Farrell State Bank (c.1920). Four of the six buildings are commercial designs. The two exceptions are the first two buildings west of Mauvausterre St. which are Richardsonian Romanesque and Italianate designs.

Founded in 1825, the City of Jacksonville is the seat of Morgan County. The central Illinois city had a population of 17,616 at the 2020 census.

Under the cover of darkness, 37099 "Merl Evans 1947-2016" with fellow classmate 37254 attached to the rear, pause in Taunton after arriving on the 1Z18 15.40 Paignton-Taunton via Bristol. The tractor was awaiting departure with the 1Q19 18.57 to Paddington, the last long stretch of the day which began at Reading at 06.11.

A pair of fine tractors on this monthly diagram is very rare (and I believe the use of 37's was possibly a first), it normally been allocated to the NMT or Colas' 67 fleet.

After several weekends of wet and uninspiring weather Sunday brought about a change with the rain being upgraded to dull damp fog.

Still I've not been out with the camera for a couple of weeks now and there were a couple of interesting workings on the Tyne Valley line on Sunday morning.

The first was the regular RHTT working 3S77 which works from Carlisle out to Alnmouth on a Sunday. The working continues to be class 68 operated with no sign of the 37's returning this year.

68034 is at the helm with 68004 on the rear. They are seen passing through a rather misty Riding Mill.

Yesterdays RHTT service with pair of veteran class 37's, 37218 and 37419 (which was inside the tunnel) made a particularly spirited departure from Knaresborough. Dad is seen here capturing the scene on his smartphone and his son gets to experience the sight and sounds (and exhaust fumes) that were all too familiar when these locomotives were built in the 1960's.

I included just a tad of a pan here to try and show the pace of the acceleration.

Rumours abound that the end for Class 37 haulage on the Rhymney line could be as early as 3rd February. Here 37418 makes its way into Cardiff Queen Street working 2R20 17:01 Cardiff Central to Rhymney.

I set off this morning for a days rail photography with my 1Z10 pals, however for various reasons I failed to rendezvous with them. The exception was Syd who I bumped into at Beverley station.

The weather really was changeable. During the last few minutes of my drive to the station at Beverley there was a cloud burst of remarkable dimensions and then for once, just as the 37's were due on the RHTT working out popped the sun much to the appreciation of Syd and myself. I am sure I will have better pictures from this moment but I haven't had a chance to review my results as yet so this rather dramatic image will have to suffice.

I know what you're all thinking... he's posting flats!!! And yes, I am, but when there's 2x heritage liveried 37's on the Blyth & Tyne that ''rule'' somehow goes out the window.

Had it been a 66, I would still have been asleep... it's funny how a different type of traction can suddenly make an otherwise boring move like this seem somewhat exciting.

Anyways, after an early rise from bed at 05:30am, we see Europhoenix 37407 'Blackpool Tower' & 37901 'Mirrlees Pioneer' working 6Z50, the 06:26 North Blyth to Wembley Receptions 1-7 wagon move, thrashing passed the gallery of 4 dedicated but mad photters at Newsham! 21/08/2024.

With 37025 up front, the 37's thrash away from the station stop with the 3Z12 11.00 driver training run from Rhymney to Cardiff Canton.

156427 approaches Nethertown on a perfect day back in June 2018. We were here of course to capture the 37's but even a humble unit makes a good shot as such a location. Nethertown beach is mainly shingle, with a broad strip of sand exposed at low-tide. Behind the beach are grassy dunes through which runs the single-track coastal railway line. Between the railway track and the beach are a scattering of chalets and beach bungalows.

I've previously uploaded a pic here of two matching Inter City 37's on the ICI's, so how about a matching pair of RFD 'split-box' 37's ?

Bayerische Flugzeugwerke (Bavarian Aircraft Works) developed the Messerschmitt Bf 108 Taifun. It was a German built designed as a two-seat sports/recreation aircraft for competition in the 4th Challenge de Tourisme Internationale (1934). It was an all metal construction. Later, the Messerschmitt Bf 109 fighter plane used many of the same design features.

The Taifun was originally known as the M 37. It’s prototype flew first in spring 1934 which received its power from a 250 hp Hirth HM 8U inverted-V piston engine, which drove a three-bladed propeller. Although it did not win the competition it was primarily designed to win since the competition demanded lighter aircraft. The M 37’s swift performance made it a popular choice for record flights. Several Bf 108s had set new endurance records soon after the first production aircraft began to roll off the assembly line in Augsburg. German pilot Elly Beinhorn flew a Bf 108A, named “Taifun” (typhoon) from Berlin to Constantinople in one day that was seriously an accomplishment. It led Messerschmitt to apply the name “Taifun” to all subsequent production models of the Bf 108.

The hot news today was that DRS had rostered a pair of 37's for 6K05 and it had a decent loading.

Already seventy minutes down leaving Kingmoor this pairing (which do not see a lot of use) according to the gen 37401 shut down soon after leaving Carlisle. Cutting out the Hellifield stop gained 20 mins but by the time they passed us under clearing skies they were still 70L.

* I note they stopped for 35 mins in the goods loop at Warrington Bank Quay awaiting a driver and eventually arrived at Basford Hall 143L!

* A rapidly growing lineside tree has been removed from the image, one more on the list for the 'Elves' in Autumn.

A sunny morning and a stiff easterly wind greets the 09:50 Glasgow - Fort William service headed by a pair of 37's.

Thanks to Extractor Fan - the locos are 37022 leading 37190.

For a few months in the spring and summer of 2018 one of the loco hauled diagrams on the Cumbrian Coast was placed in the hands of top and tailed class 68's, possibly as a result of poor reliability from the 37 fleet.

On the 7th June 68003 and 68017 approach Nethertown with the 2C33 15:31 Barrow-In-Furness to Carlisle. By the time of the RHTT season both diagrams were back in the hands of 37's up until the end of the loco hauled operations on December 28th.

A pair of 37's 37171 and 37155 with the 15.38 Aberystwyth - Shrewsbury head towards the summit at Talerdigg on 20-7-85.

[with grateful thanks to Bushcutta for the above!]

These are my feeble attempts at identifying the locos.

Looking at records of pairings of 37's in July and August 1985 the options appear to be: 37235/ 257, 37220/ 227, or 37251/ 224. However the front loco appears to have a Scottie on the side which as far as I can see doesn't match any of them. With my not very good eyesight and general ignorance I would appreciate any assistance on offer.

It is possible this is towards the end of July but I had ruled out 163/176 and 230/303.

Stopping momentarily under that magnificent station roof f York gave the ideal opportunity to capture this pair of 37's.

Performing live in York and what a performance, I was lucky to witness the spectacle over two nights in October and what a magnificent sight and sound these two made under the equally magnificent York station canopy.

DRS Class 37's No's 37218 and 37425 'Sir Robert McAlpine/Concrete Bob' climb Dronfield bank with 1Z12, the 06.19 Bristol Temple Meads - Bolton 'Pennine Wayfairer'.

Organised by Pathfinder Railtours and operated by DRS.

These two views were taken from Wood Lane over bridge which marked the entrance to Tinsley depot and its huge marshalling yard. Gone are the glory days of watching hump shunting, sneaking around the shed and at the very least taking a walk along the embankment to spot the lines of class 20's, 37's, Peaks and 47's. March 1998 marked the closure of the shed and shortly afterwards the yard was ripped up and partially built upon. A spur was left in situ but of late new operations have once again moved back into the cutting. A small freight liner terminal has been built and as seen here a spoil train is being unloaded.

As for the top view, I believe this shows 47284 returning to the shed from a local trip run. I count three guards vans in that consist. The current day photo shows a recently painted 66014 at the head of the spoil train.

Black Five 45407 has just returned to the shed after its run out to Mallaig whilst West Coast Railway 37’s 518 and 685 sit on shed. The last time we I visited this location (2016) the old running shed would have occupied the tarmac space to the middle left of this view. Yes the shed is tidier but far less interesting. This photo was taken through the locked front gates that have also appeared since my last visit.

37610 is leading the 1Q52 test train circuit with 37254 on the rear as it crosses the River Test on the causeway between Redbridge and Totton near Southampton.

More commonly the preserve of the class 73/9's, from time to time class 37's do appear on this circuit and it was good to be able to catch up with this pair on a day with good light and when I wasn't at work! Fortunately the train passed this location a few minutes early- just before some high cloud disrupted the light for the next hour or so!

This drone shot came out better than I expected, but I may well post the ground level one also.

We take our first bow with great joy,

While our last bow, we do not really enjoy.

These are 3 out of a total of 5 Class 37’s that were included in the line up, following the end of the locomotives use on this years railhead treatment trains based at York.

The photo shoot was organised by the well respected Network Rail Director Chris Gee, and involved a huge amount of detailed preparation and organisation amongst both DRS and Network Rail, as well as numerous individuals. It was a great success and all of the proceeds raised (believed to be approx. £3,000.00) will be donated to Martin House Hospice.
