Fisheye 360º panorama, multiple exposure and HDR merge [Nikkor Fisheye AI 16mm f/2.8]

The end of the trail has some nice rocks you can climb to get a 360degree view of the Rockies

Luckily, not as cold on here this morning as expected, yet harsh winter is sure waiting in the wings already to bare its fangs. A 360degree panoramic views never disappoint you. On a clear day you can see from here as faraway as Mt Hakusans, which look as if they were floating on a sea of clouds, not to mention a Japan icon, (sticking-outa-clouds) Mt Fuji, woo-hoo!.

The ultimate challenge for a stacking programme with all those hairs at 360degree angles? Not perfect, but I think Helicon did pretty well.

With clear skies, at least by Southeastern US standards I set out on an overnight trip to Linville Gorge, in eastern North Carolina to capture the Milky Way over the east rim. Try as I might it seemed the only suitable place to set up obscured Table Rock which is directly behind the tree snag that breaks the horizon line left of center. Hawksbill Mountain is to the left of there. The Chimneys are just to the right and Shortoff Mountain is to the right of the galactic core, out of view. under the Milky Way the lights of Hickory, and other small communities of North Carolina back-light the few clouds in sight.

I came up with the name due to the only area I could set up my tent was under the boulder I have the tripod set up on. and between the boulder to the far left of the image when viewed in flat projection. Another cliff face was inches from the back side of the tent. Despite the tight quarters it really was a cozy place to set up camp for the night.

I've done a lot of map tags before but never had one read "A mysterious place with no name". I love it :)

Few places capture the essence of the West Australian landscape as well as the Pinnacles Desert in the Nambung National Park at Cervantes.

This well-documented site features thousands of limestone structures known as the "Pinnacles" and the lack of light pollution gives way to some of the best skies in the world.

This 360 degree photosphere is a combination of 80 individual images and took over 40 minutes to capture.

Here's a 360-degree panorama taken at Smith Rock State Park in central Oregon, and morphed into a "mini planet." I like how the giant rock outcroppings become the skyline in this spherical depiction. That's the Crooked river in the center.

Taken with film box anamorphic pinhole camera on 4.5x9 cm old orthochromatic photocopy film. 360 degree view. Exposure about 10 min due to both overcast and sunny lighting conditions. Developed in D-76.

Taken from the University of Western Sydney grounds, at Kingswood, NSW. It is possible to take a 360degree shot with no wires to distract.

The large building, right of centre is the University of Western Sydney.

Yes, this is Okapulco - Oka Park nude beach - but without any bathers (except the videographer)

It is very rare during the summer to see it empty like this.

But this was the only way to take a video I could share here on Flickr.

I took it in mid-September 2009.

Unless my other video which I had process to fit in 90 sec limit - this one is original and good quality. It is 45 seconds long and shows the whole nude beach area from its central point. I encourage you to view it in full screen version.

Ozone Falls State Natural Area.

When I first was introduced to this area, towering hemlocks shaded the plunge pool. Even with their passing due to storms and invasive insects I find this a place of great beauty and a reminder of all that I missed from East Tennessee while living out west. There is much I miss from the west as well. My heart and camera are torn between two worlds. Not such a bad problem to have I suppose.

Panoramic View off of Wildlife Loop Road (Custer State Park)

First attempt to take 360 panorama and create my planet.

At the heart of the d'Arenberg Winery is the Cube. The interior leaves nothing to the imagination - everything is there. The idea to build the d'Arenberg Cube came to Chester Osborn in 2003.

Inspired by the complexities and puzzles of winemaking, Chester created the idea of a cube-shaped building.

Each of the five levels have been carefully designed to entice and excite the senses, including features such as a wine sensory room, a virtual fermenter, a 360degree video room, and many other tactile experiences.

Visitors are encouraged to explore the Alternate Realities Museum, located on the ground floor, and view the many art installations on display. (Information from d'Arenberg website)

Trollstigen (Trolls' Path) is a serpentine mountain road in Rauma Municipality, Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It is part of Norwegian County Road 63 that connects the town of Åndalsnes in Rauma and the village of Valldal in Norddal Municipality. It is a popular tourist attraction due to its steep incline of 10% and eleven hairpin bends up a steep mountainside. [Wikipedia]

Here he be! He's not perfect, and I'd love to attempt a 360degree print on the head at some point, but he looks fine! Just some tweaks to make the lines sit more naturally on the curves. Now to make them a ship....

The Guilderton lighthouse, a favourite of mine.

On this night, we see a garden of celestial objects with Venus setting towards the western sky, illuminated by the Zodiacal Lights.

Saturn stands close to Antares and Mars transits the core of the Milky Way. On the left of the frame is the Large Magellanic Cloud, just above the light pollution coming from Perth city.

Fun Facts:

The Guilderton Lighthouse was established in 1983. Autonomous in design, it has never been manned but serves as a necessary navigational aid between Jurien Bay and Fremantle. Since it's commissioning, no other lighthouses have been built in western australia.

Without any doubt, views are often the most interesting when conditions are rather harsh and it takes a bit of determination to go out and take some photos. I thought a bit about camera settings before stepping out of the warm car to take these.... but once outside i didn't feel like staying longer than I absolutely need to and it may show.

Among the fascinating but photographically also challenging elements of this place is the constantly changing colorful and bright light outside the gas station.

Likewise, the steam from the recently rebuilt steamplant is moving and changing fast, a challenge for stitching and also capturing, because it wouldn't look "right to me" with longer exposures that would otherwise allow for better image quality.
