N707PD : Boeing 707-347C : Arrow Air
Another 1983 summer day at Gatwick, and two more different types and liveries from Arrow Air, in the days when they flew passenger charters.
13703 : Boeing CC-137 (707-347C) : Canadian Armed Forces.
Crossing runway 27 threshold to its IAT parking spot on the south side.
Digging deep, deep into the print film archives, back to a time before I had "discovered" slide film...
F7A/B #347C/B (reportedly built as F7A 39C and F3B 35A) had a long colorful history on Santa Fe before being leased to Amtrak in 1971. They were returned to Santa Fe in 1973 but luckily, escaped the CF-7 rebuild program. Santa Fe donated them to the California State Railroad Museum in March 1986 and their existing Yellowbonnet scheme was replaced by the present Warbonnet scheme at Santa Fe's San Bernardino shops in April 1988. In May of that year, they participated in Railfair 1988 in San Diego.
On this date, probably in late May or early June 1988, the Central California Traction Company is at their carbarn on Cherokee Lane and preparing to deliver the F's back up to Sacramento, having retrieved them from Santa Fe's Mormon Yard in Stockton, CA on a previous date. They'll likely have the assistance of the Friendly SP, which connected with both the museum and the Traction Company in Sacramento.

EMD F7 - Santa Fe No. 347C
This diesel-electric locomotive was built in Sep. 1949 by General Motors Electro-Motive Division and can now be seen in the "California State Railroad Museum" in Sacramento. - scanned slide, Minolta X700
OD-AGU : Boeing 707-347C : Middle East Airlines
MEA's 707s turned up at some unusual airports in the UK in the summer of 1989, flying sub-charters for UK holiday airlines. Besides Gatwick, I also photographed them at Luton and Glasgow.
I don't know if it was just me, but, on this side of the unit the "kink" in the warbonnet curve always looked a little off to me.

Fairford, July 2003. Retired to 309th AMARG 6 December 2022. This aircraft was originally a CC-137, serial 13704, with the CAF.
Arriving at Malta-Luqa in summer 1981. This 707 was leased by Aer Lingus for just three months from 29 July 1981, hence the minimal livery, which retained the green trim of Eagle Air of Iceland. Transports of the Royal Canadian Air Force were regular at Gatwick, operating into Europe as well as to North America,
I recall seeing Dakotas, Bristol170, Hercules and Canadair Yukons as well as these Boeings. Also I once saw a DHC Caribou flying over not far from Guildford. They had some Convair Liners too, but I never saw one.
They replaced the Yukons (a Bristol Britannia derivative) with five Boeing 707s which were originally ordered by the US carrier Western Airlines. This one is 13701.

Although it's not operational, earlier this year the California State Railroad Museum brought out Santa Fe 347C to run a few excursions with WP 913.
