Winter is on my head, but eternal spring is in my heart. (Victor Hugo)

I took this one just as I'm packing up, after shooting 30 previous frames. Guess which I liked the best?

Technical notes: Tonemapped 3xp at 8 sec f14 +/- 2 steps. Then some layer blending to clean up the foreground, selective saturation and curve adjustments.

I started out Arachtober with this fellow, now I shall end with him. Hopefully next year I'll have more, and more of a variety, to post. This assumes that I'll still be physically able to take photos . . .

Happy Arachtober 30!

Thanks for Viewing.

The first train after several days of drifting on the UP Troy Grove sub. An epic day of chasing this train to just South or US 30. Thanks to Mark Llanuza for driving that day. I think he broke a tie bar on his truck going thru some drifts this train created at the last place we shot him

With a little visitor at Meijer Gardens. I am not sure what this is. My guess is a type of Rudbeckia. I know most wildflowers, but not sure about garden flowers.

CSXT local L011 (formerly) B733 with lone GP40-2 6226 (EMD blt. Jan. 1978 as BO 4327 and delivered in Chessie System paint) has a half dozen cars in tow as they approach Elm Street at MP 2 on the Framingham Secondary headed for Mansfield where they work customers located off Amtrak's Northeast Corridor in the area.

Built as the Mansfield and Framingham Railroad in 1870 the 21 mile route between its two namesake points came under the aegis the Old Colony Railroad in 1879 and then the New Haven in 1893 when that system absorbed the OCRR. 40 years later passenger service ended, but for the past 86 years the line has been an important freight route. Passing from the NH to PC, CR and ultimately CSXT the line was sold by the latter in June 2015 to MassDOT for $23 million. The line is now dispatched and maintained under contract by Mass Coastal but still served by CSXT which owns the perpetual freight rights. This branch line was for years limited to 10 MPH but has recently been upgraded all to 25 and 30 thanks to the state despite still normally seeing just four trains a day on its fairly flat route through wooded semi rural and suburban Boston bedroom communities.

I was mistaken yesterday, it's been over a week of rain.

Green is springing up in places that are always yellowey-brown.

Weeds are twisting their way through the cracks of concrete, and choking the flowers.

Nature is going wild, at least in my yard.

There is something so beautiful, yet frightening about nature taking it's course, even in such little ways.

I wanted this picture to show how small we really are in nature.

Storm clouds are looming overhead, the wind is blowing, and weeds are taller than me.

A lot of times rain puts people into a depression, but for me, it makes me think.

Black.

For Flickr Group Roulette, the theme was 'Gettin freaky with the geeky.'

Here is the description given hah.

"So get to it peeps. Get in bed with a geek, get in bed with your Mac, wear something completely geeky to bed - or whatever you want - as long as you are:

'Gettin Freaky with the Geeky'"

So here is my interpretation.

Grammar book -- Hella geek.

Taped glasses -- Stereotype geek to the max.

Art History book & Dictionary -- Geek!

Quilt --GEEK (hah I made it when I was like 12.)

My Roy Lichtenstein-esque pjs -- Pretty geeky.

Headband -- Again, pretty geeky.

Funny thing is .. that all this stuff was readily available in my room. Ahh oh no!! I'm a geeeeek.

:)

Ahh but I'm excited, first picture taken with my new XTi. And tomorrow's my birthdayyy. Oh so I took this picture at midnight, so my birthday is still tomorrow .. the 2nd. But thank you all for the birthday wishesss!

Still under the watchful eye, the marvel of metal and grey continues. One of the principal reasons why I return to this building apart from the masterful design is that they let me have a full run at it - I get thrown out of nearly all other buildings in LA, all security guards and authorities claiming 911 status - I cannot claim 911 status when they are rude to me, stalk me and stand so close I can smell their stinking breath.

Thank you to Gehry, and the Concert Hall authorities for TRULY giving this building to the people -

Note: study in composition.

This shot was taken in the Tucson Mountain Park during monsoon season at sunset, looking southwest into the Sonoran Desert. An intense monsoon storm, just to the south in Avra Valley, was producing strong downdraft winds, causing dust to rise high into the atmosphere. Combined with the sun's rays, this spectacular color event was created. This is number eleven in a series of sixteen shot on 8/13/07, west of Tucson Arizona.

This photo placed FIRST in "Nature's Pot-of-Gold", #2 Sunrise/Sunset Den {Round 30}. Thanks Everyone!

to myself

Angie, Angie, when will those clouds all disappear?

Angie, Angie, where will it lead us from here?

With no loving in our souls and no money in our coats

You can't say we're satisfied

But Angie, Angie, you can't say we never tried

Angie, you're beautiful, but ain't it time we said good-bye?

Angie, I still love you, remember all those nights we cried?

All the dreams we held so close seemed to all go up in smoke

Let me whisper in your ear:

Angie, Angie, where will it lead us from here?

Oh, Angie, don't you weep, all your kisses still taste sweet

I hate that sadness in your eyes

But Angie, Angie, ain't it time we said good-bye?

With no loving in our souls and no money in our coats

You can't say we're satisfied

But Angie, I still love you, baby

Ev'rywhere I look I see your eyes

There ain't a woman that comes close to you

Come on Baby, dry your eyes

But Angie, Angie, ain't it good to be alive?

Angie, Angie, they can't say we never tried

With its (up to) 9X EV bracketing, the D300 makes it easy to do an HDR image. This is my first attempt at a multiple exposure tone map, all my other HDR's up to date have been from a single RAW or jpeg. Yeah, I know, nothing new here with the Dream Lights and Partners, but I don't think I've seen it done in HDR yet. And part of the reason I wanted to do this in HDR is that it's nearly impossible to get this exposure this way with a single file. In fact, it probably is impossible, save some SERIOUS post processing work. So there you have it, Cinderella Castle Dream Lights - 2008, in high dynamic range.

Macro Mondays Theme - Security

I took a different approach to "Security". For me, a happy marriage means security, so this week, I used my husband and things he's given me for my pictures.

Our wedding bands are inscribed inside, they say, "Yours though lifetimes."
