(A=Andreas, RA=Rafaela)...

Morning mammatus clouds over YRD while doing the walkaround.

Flying above Ottawa on a city tour several years back while I was a flight instructor.

Approaching Thompson from the South, and this band of auroras quickly lit up for about 10 minutes before I had to put the phone away and focus on an approach. By the time we landed it was gone.

Landed in Flin Flon before sunrise, then as the light began appearing, it revealed some light ground fog and these beautiful wispy cirrus clouds.

Had the afternoon off from work, though these cells were about 100 miles to the northwest and I wasn't chasing that afternoon.

Everything was pushing to the east northeast and they were putting on a decent display of a mid summer Nebraska Thunderstorm.

Grabbed my cam and went out to take a few snaps before they moved out of the area!

Taken walking around on Canada Day a few years ago, and noticed there were these fairly rare noctilucent clouds hanging over the city. Walked down to the river bank in St. Boniface to get the angle.

As there was a storm coming, I went out to the bay in Alviso in order to capture this panorama.

jJolley is a talented surf survivor. Not the California, Beach Boys kind of surf but the gritty Motor City Rock & Roll kind of surf... the Bob Seger, Kid Rock, Eminem kind of surf.

Through his stamina and dedication, Jay has kept his balance and caught some great waves. He's established himself as an exciting singer performing at the front of such notable bands as 2XL, Flash, Notorious Johnny’s and The Heat. He has performed and/or recorded with many top talents, including Johnny "Bee" Badanjek and Anita Cochran. He has kicked out solid rock & roll as a keyboardist with Mitch Ryder, Mark Farner and Dick Wagner. And, with numerous bands, he has opened for such headliners as Black Crowes, Eddie Money, Rhythm Corps, Sass Jordan and UFO. Through singles, EPs and albums, Jay's voice has become a familiar pleasure to radio listeners throughout the Midwest. A few years ago, he was tapped by the Detroit Red Wings to perform their game song, Get Up, which is played every time the Red Wings take to the ice for a home game.

It's hard enough to make original pictures, but with some subjects it simply borders the impossible.

When I was at Victoria Falls last year, I thought about the billions of photographs that must have been taken there, and I almost decided to just visit the place without my camera. That was until I spoke with some of the local people, who told me that they had seen a bull elephant crossing the Zambezi river the day before. During my research I had not seen any images of the falls with an elephant in it, so I decided to stay a few extra days and try my luck.

The course of the Zambezi is dotted with numerous tree-covered islands, which increase in number as the river approaches the falls. As the dry season takes effect, the islets on the crest become wider and more numerous, and with the water level of the Zambezi dropping, once submerged walkways and fresh foraging possibilities present themselves. This elephant was apparently aware of this.

On the third day I left very early with a small boat to reach my location. On my way to the edge I suddenly saw the lone bull wading through shallow parts of the river, but it was far away and light levels were low, so I decided to continue to the falls. I took some sunrise shots and half an hour later I saw the elephant approaching the falls. I quickly collected my gear and moved carefully towards the edge where the water plummeted into a 360ft chasm - not particularly nice when you're afraid of heights... I set everything up in order to include as much as possible of the falls and made a composition. Luckily the elephant was aware of my preference to shoot into the light, so his position couldn't be better.

After I took the shots, I knew I had just witnessed and captured something very special. Later that day local people confirmed this by telling me that they had never seen an elephant so close to the edge of the falls before - exactly what I wanted to hear!
