Die RhB Ge 4/4 II ist eine Elektrolokomotive der Rhätischen Bahn (RhB) mit der Baubezeichnung
Ge 4/4. Die 23 Loks mit den Nummern 6.11 bis 6.33 wurden 1973 (erste Serie) und 1984
(zweite Serie) in Betrieb genommen. Die letzte Lok der zweiten Serie mit dem Namen Z.uoz
und der N.ummer 6.33 wurde erst 1985 ausgeliefert. Sie lösten die Ge 6 / 6 I (K.rokodile) ab,
die immer störungsanfälliger wurden.

Im äusseren Erscheinungsbild erinnern die von SLM und BBC gelieferten Lokomotiven an die
Re 4/4II der S.BB. Der elektrische Teil unterscheidet sich allerdings deutlich: Aus Thyristoren
und Dioden aufgebaute gesteuerte Gleichrichter (Phasenanschnittsteuerung) versorgen die
Fahrmotoren mit welligem Gleichstrom.
Die Bo'Bo'-Loks sind 90 km/h schnell und 50 Tonnen schwer. Die Stundenleistung beträgt
1`700 kW bei 52 km/h. Als Anhängelast sind 185 t auf 45 Promille Steigung und 245 t auf
35 Promille zulässig, bei D.oppeltraktion maximal 400 t.

Die zweite Serie 6.21-6.33 wurde bereits in der seither gebräuchlichen roten Farbgebung
abgeliefert, die ursprünglich grünen 6.11-6.20 später angeglichen. Ab 1999 erhielten einige
Maschinen anlässlich von Revisionen neue r.echteckige S.cheinwerfer, blieben aber
ansonsten unverändert. Seit 2004 werden alle 23 Lokomotiven im Rahmen eines
Refit-Programms umfassend modernisiert, wobei unter anderem eine moderne
computergestützte Leittechnik die analoge Steuerelektronik ablösen wird.

Seit ihrer Ablieferung sind die Lokomotiven auf dem gesamten Stammnetz vor P.ersonen- und
G.üterzügen im Einsatz, seit 1997 auch auf der A.rosabahn. Die Maschinen können
vielfachgesteuert in D.oppeltraktion verkehren. Mit den im Jahre 1999 beschafften S.teuerwagen
der Serie B.Dt 1751-58 können P.endelzüge gebildet werden.
Die Lokomotiven sind nach Ortschaften entlang des RhB-Netzes in Graubünden benannt. Die
Namen stehen in weisser Schrift auf rechter und linker Seite im oberen Bereich des Fahrzeuges,
die Betriebsnummern 6.11-6.33 auf den beiden Stirnseiten, sowie seitlich unten. Neben dem
N.amen trägt jede Lok das W.appen der P.atengemeinde.

* Am 5. Januar 2007 wurde Lokomotive 6.32 ( Z.izers ) durch einen F.elssturz auf der Strecke
C.hur - I.lanz schwer beschädigt, nachdem sie in der Nähe des B.ahnhofs V.alendas entgleist
war und Teile einer G.alerie mitgerissen hatte. Laut einer Stellungnahme der Abteilung
Rollmaterial der Rhätischen Bahn wird die Maschine auf dem alten Unterbau mit einem neuen
Kasten wiederhergestellt.

Die RhB Ge 4/4 II ist eine Elektrolokomotive der Rhätischen Bahn (RhB) mit der Baubezeichnung
Ge 4/4. Die 23 Loks mit den Nummern 6.11 bis 6.33 wurden 1973 (erste Serie) und 1984
(zweite Serie) in Betrieb genommen. Die letzte Lok der zweiten Serie mit dem Namen Z.uoz
und der N.ummer 6.33 wurde erst 1985 ausgeliefert. Sie lösten die Ge 6 / 6 I (K.rokodile) ab,
die immer störungsanfälliger wurden.

Im äusseren Erscheinungsbild erinnern die von SLM und BBC gelieferten Lokomotiven an die
Re 4/4II der S.BB. Der elektrische Teil unterscheidet sich allerdings deutlich: Aus Thyristoren
und Dioden aufgebaute gesteuerte Gleichrichter (Phasenanschnittsteuerung) versorgen die
Fahrmotoren mit welligem Gleichstrom.
Die Bo'Bo'-Loks sind 90 km/h schnell und 50 Tonnen schwer. Die Stundenleistung beträgt
1`700 kW bei 52 km/h. Als Anhängelast sind 185 t auf 45 Promille Steigung und 245 t auf
35 Promille zulässig, bei D.oppeltraktion maximal 400 t.

Die zweite Serie 6.21-6.33 wurde bereits in der seither gebräuchlichen roten Farbgebung
abgeliefert, die ursprünglich grünen 6.11-6.20 später angeglichen. Ab 1999 erhielten einige
Maschinen anlässlich von Revisionen neue r.echteckige S.cheinwerfer, blieben aber
ansonsten unverändert. Seit 2004 werden alle 23 Lokomotiven im Rahmen eines
Refit-Programms umfassend modernisiert, wobei unter anderem eine moderne
computergestützte Leittechnik die analoge Steuerelektronik ablösen wird.

Seit ihrer Ablieferung sind die Lokomotiven auf dem gesamten Stammnetz vor P.ersonen- und
G.üterzügen im Einsatz, seit 1997 auch auf der A.rosabahn. Die Maschinen können
vielfachgesteuert in D.oppeltraktion verkehren. Mit den im Jahre 1999 beschafften S.teuerwagen
der Serie B.Dt 1751-58 können P.endelzüge gebildet werden.
Die Lokomotiven sind nach Ortschaften entlang des RhB-Netzes in Graubünden benannt. Die
Namen stehen in weisser Schrift auf rechter und linker Seite im oberen Bereich des Fahrzeuges,
die Betriebsnummern 6.11-6.33 auf den beiden Stirnseiten, sowie seitlich unten. Neben dem
N.amen trägt jede Lok das W.appen der P.atengemeinde.

C.hur - I.lanz schwer beschädigt, nachdem sie in der Nähe des B.ahnhofs V.alendas entgleist
war und Teile einer G.alerie mitgerissen hatte. Laut einer Stellungnahme der Abteilung
Rollmaterial der Rhätischen Bahn wird die Maschine auf dem alten Unterbau mit einem neuen
Kasten wiederhergestellt.

Still driven regularly on the highway, the 84-year-old Model A was displayed at Old Car Club of Gallipolis 34rd Annual Car Show. The owner pointed out the emergency brake handle is on the left, not in the middle as in most 28's. "This shows it was one of the earliest made," he told me.
The first Model A's were sold in December 1927.
This is one of my favorite drives in Colorado. The road to the top of Mount Evans (near Idaho Springs) is the highest paved road in the state at over 14,000 feet. This picture was taken a week ago in the afternoon as storms rolled in. Lightning is a big hazard but the view, wow, it's like you are sitting on the clouds. Seventeen miles of curves with serious drop-offs is quite a ride. In the morning it is fun to watch the cyclists working their way up and down.

Kangaroo Island Sealink operates a daily ferry service from mainland South Australia to Penneshaw, a major town on Kangaroo Island. The ferry departs from the town of Cape Jervis, which is a 90-minute drive south of Adelaide (or take Sealink's shuttle bus service). Daily flights also transfer passengers from Adelaide to Kangaroo Island with the airline Regional Express. The island is surprisingly large, being 155 kilometres (96 miles) long and 55 kilometres (35 miles) at its widest; you'll need at least a weekend to explore it

The Seal Bay Conservation Park on Kangaroo Island's south coast is the only place in the world where you can walk among endangered Australian sea lions. You can walk along a 900-metre (2950-foot) wooden boardwalk on a Boardwalk Tour and see the animals on the sand and in the surf, or you can take a guided 45-minute Seal Bay Experience tour onto the beach itself.

Even though a third of Kangaroo Island is national park, you don’t have to be in one to see its famous wildlife. Across the island, kangaroos, Tammar wallabies, Rosenberg’s goannas, koalas, echidnas, Australian fur seals and long-nosed fur seals roam free. In addition, the island is home to over 250 species of birds, including Little Penguins and one of the world’s largest birds of prey, the magnificent Wedge Tailed Eagle.
Kangaroo Island is also the world’s only sanctuary for Ligurian bees. Introduced from Italy in the late 1800s, the bee has created a thriving honey industry.
Flinders Chase National Park dominates the western end of the island, and although 326 square kilometres in size, has just four permanent residents, all of whom are Park Rangers. It’s also home to some of the island’s most spectacular sights, like Remarkable Rocks, Admirals Arch and Cape du Couedic Lighthouse.
Koalas are arguably Australia’s cutest native marsupials. They spend most of the day resting and eating high up in eucalyptus trees. If you fancy giving a koala a cuddle just like Chris, then the best way to encounter them is with a visit to Kangaroo Island Wildlife Park near the centre of the island. Another great way to spot koalas is by taking a guided or self-guided stroll down the Hanson Bay Wildlife Sanctuary Koala walk located along the south-west coast.
The Australian sea lion (Neophoca cinerea), also known as the Australian sea-lion or Australian sealion, is a species of sea lion that is the only endemic pinniped in Australia.[2] It is currently monotypic in the genus Neophoca, with the extinct Pleistocene New Zealand sea lion Neophoca palatina the only known congener.[3] These sea lions are sparsely distributed through Houtman Arbrolhos Islands (28°S., 114°E.) in Western Australia and The Pages Islands (35°46’S., 138°18’E) in southern Australia. With a population estimated at around 14,730 animals, the Wildlife Conservation Act of Western Australia (1950) has listed them as “in need of special protection”. Their Conservation status is listed as endangered. These pinnipeds are specifically known for their abnormal breeding cycles, which are varied between a 5-month breeding cycle and a 17- to 18-month aseasonal breeding cycle, compared to other pinnipeds which fit into a 12-month reproductive cycle.[2] Females are either silver or fawn with a cream underbelly and males are dark chocolate brown with a yellow mane and are bigger than the females.

Australian sea lions (Neophoca cinerea) are part of a group known as ‘eared’ seals. They use their front flippers to prop themselves up and their back flippers to help them to ‘walk’ on land. In the water their back flippers act as a rudder.
These fascinating creatures are one of the rarest species in the world and their entire population is estimated to be less than 12,000. Of these, 85 percent live in South Australia and the other 15 percent in Western Australia.
Seal Bay is home to the third largest colony of Australian sea lions with an estimated population of 800. This is about five percent of the world's total. The Australian sea lion was nearly hunted to extinction in the 19th century. We can count ourselves lucky that places like Seal Bay exist today.
Australian sea lions are listed as endangered and declining on the IUCN Red List. They are also listed as vulnerable under the Commonwealth Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999, and are protected in South Australia under the National Parks and Wildlife Act 1972.
The Australian sea lion differs from earless or ‘true’ seals (such as leopard seals) – these have no external ear flaps and can’t use their hind legs when on land.

I initially styled this tree approximately 6 years ago in a workshop, and allowed it to grow almost wild for several years. Radically restyled two or three years ago with a large knob trimmed down on either side of the trunk and many branches pruned off. Several roots were grafted on (the most recent still has some foliage attached, it can be seen at the lower right side of the trunk). This year it was repotted into its final pot with the previous back as the new front. I'm currently undecided, but I had intended to grow some aerial roots from the lower branches to complete the banyan style. However, the trunk flare improved enough that I want to be sure not to hide it.

Arriva Kent & Surrey have withdrawn from service 28 (Guildford - Pirbright - Woking), citing non-viability. The last day was Saturday 24th September 2016.
The decision follows earlier changes from 13th March 2016, which saw the unviable 17 (Guildford - Uni - Park Barn - Wood Street & Fairlands) withdrawn and the 28 diverted between Worplesdon and Guildford via Fairlands, Park Barn and the uni (but not via Wood Street).
Presumably, this was a final attempt to make a success of the service, by merging the majority of the traffic onto one route - but not successful.
Buses Excetera have agreed to take over the 28, starting from Monday 26th September 2016. It will return to the original route through Stoughton between Worplesdon and Guildford, rather than the lengthy route via Fairlands and the uni. It is also merged with the 73 at the Woking end, now running as one Guildford - Woking - Chobham service.

The K-28's were slightly more powerful than the K-27 class and were produced by the American Locomotive Company in 1923. I was experimenting with backlighting and the effects very cold temperatures producing steam. Everything around a steam operation is apparently hot, the ashes, engines...but not the photographer who was freezing at that hour of the morning in December at about 6500 feet above sealevel...

In 1956, the US Navy issued a requirement for a basic trainer aircraft capable of carrier landings, but an aircraft that would also be easy to fly, easy to maintain, and relatively low-cost. The intent of the aircraft was to supplement and eventually replace the earlier TV-1 SeaStar (a navalized version of the T-33 Shooting Star) and two-seat F9F-8T Cougar trainers.
North American, which had earlier designed the successful T-28 Trojan propeller-driven basic trainer for the Navy, chose a design that deliberately drew from earlier naval aircraft. The prototype used the wing design from the FJ-1 Fury, one of the Navy’s first jet fighters, while the cockpit layout was based on the T-28’s. Though the aircraft was obviously no high-performance fighter, with straight wings and a bulbous fuselage, it met all the Navy’s requirements of being robust, simple to fly, and below cost. The Navy purchased the aircraft as the T2J-1 Buckeye, named for the state of Ohio where it was produced, and it entered service in 1958.
While initial reports were favorable, the Buckeye lacked speed: though it was never intended to be supersonic, it was slower than the aircraft it was meant to replace, and its single engine meant that a flameout would mean a subsequent bailout. North American redesigned the aircraft with two J85 turbojets, which was a minimal-time conversion, provided the Buckeye with the safety of two engines, and brought performance up to standard. This aircraft was accepted into the Navy as the T-2B, under post-1962 designation practices. A version with uprated engines, the T-2C, became the baseline aircraft. Buckeyes, as planned, replaced the TV-1, though two-seat TA-4J Skyhawks proved better to replace the TF-9J Cougars.
Over the next forty years, every naval aviator to pass through the US Navy’s pilot training program flew Buckeyes. The syllabus called for initial qualification in T-34C TurboMentors, after which the pilot went on to the T-2. If he (or she) were selected for fighter or attack duties, the T-2 was then used to “carqual” (carrier qualify) before going on to the more high performance TA-4J, and from there to frontline squadrons after graduation. The T-2’s forgiving nature and easy handling made it a perfect trainer for naval aviators. These features also led to it being adopted as the T-2D and T-2E respectively for the Venezuelan and Greek air forces, who used them primarily as trainers, but with secondary roles of light bomber, counterinsurgency, and forward air control duties.
Though the T-2 lasted in service longer than the US Navy had anticipated—the last would not leave naval service until 2008—plans to replace it had already been made by 1990, and gradually the Buckeye was replaced by the T-45A Goshawk. Venezuela has also since retired theirs, leaving Greece the only nation still flying T-2s, which in turn are likely to be retired in the next few years. A few have made their way to civilian operators. 529 Buckeyes were built.
T-2C Bureau Number 156697 joined the US Navy sometime in the late 1970s, and served with VT-19 ("Fighting Frogs") at NAS Meridian, Mississippi until 2003. It was retired and donated to the USS Midway Museum, and painted in the colors of VT-9 (which are nearly identical to those of VT-19). I got a shot in May 2021.
When the United States Air Force set out to replace its aging T-6 Texan trainers, North American was hired to complete the task. What they presented was the Model NA-159 piston-engine trainer; a design that was so successful that it was responsible for gaining a contract for two XT-28 prototypes. After an evaluation of these prototypes and an initial flight on September 26, 1949, the Air Force was so impressed that it ordered production to begin on the newly designated T-28A.
The Trojan, as it became known, had a frameless canopy and a Wright R-1300 engine that, when combined, gave it a top speed that often exceeded 280 mph. First orders of 266 planes in 1950 eventually grew to 1,194. After it became evident that the Air Force had found a very successful design, the United Sates Navy and Marine Corps adopted it as well. Two years later, 489 standardized versions (T-28Bs) were ordered by the Navy, mainly differing from the T-28A in its use of the more-powerful Wright R-1820-86 engine. Following this, 299 T-28Cs were produced, which were fitted with an arrester gear for carrier-deck landing training.
In 1962, North American began supplying T-28Ds for the counter-insurgency role. Six underwing hard-points were added in order for the aircraft to accept a variety of weapons. The T-28 saw action in both Southeast Asia and North Africa. The attack trainer version of the T-28D was called the AT-28D. France's Sud-Aviation converted over 240 T-28Ds into Fennecs and used them as replacements for their Algerian-based T-6s. Fennecs performed admirably in the close-support, reconnaissance and patrol roles.
The T-28's service career, though long, was finally ended by the introduction of the T-34 turboprop trainer, but the T-28 lives on as one of the most popular piston-powered warbirds in the USA, as well as several other countries. [History by Kimberly Workman]

Walk among rare sea lions
The Seal Bay Conservation Park on Kangaroo Island's south coast is the only place in the world where you can walk among endangered Australian sea lions. You can walk along a 900-metre (2950-foot) wooden boardwalk on a Boardwalk Tour and see the animals on the sand and in the surf, or you can take a guided 45-minute Seal Bay Experience tour onto the beach itself.

Even though a third of Kangaroo Island is national park, you don’t have to be in one to see its famous wildlife. Across the island, kangaroos, Tammar wallabies, Rosenberg’s goannas, koalas, echidnas, Australian fur seals and long-nosed fur seals roam free. In addition, the island is home to over 250 species of birds, including Little Penguins and one of the world’s largest birds of prey, the magnificent Wedge Tailed Eagle.
Kangaroo Island is also the world’s only sanctuary for Ligurian bees. Introduced from Italy in the late 1800s, the bee has created a thriving honey industry.
Flinders Chase National Park dominates the western end of the island, and although 326 square kilometres in size, has just four permanent residents, all of whom are Park Rangers. It’s also home to some of the island’s most spectacular sights, like Remarkable Rocks, Admirals Arch and Cape du Couedic Lighthouse.
Koalas are arguably Australia’s cutest native marsupials. They spend most of the day resting and eating high up in eucalyptus trees. If you fancy giving a koala a cuddle just like Chris, then the best way to encounter them is with a visit to Kangaroo Island Wildlife Park near the centre of the island. Another great way to spot koalas is by taking a guided or self-guided stroll down the Hanson Bay Wildlife Sanctuary Koala walk located along the south-west coast.
The Australian sea lion (Neophoca cinerea), also known as the Australian sea-lion or Australian sealion, is a species of sea lion that is the only endemic pinniped in Australia.[2] It is currently monotypic in the genus Neophoca, with the extinct Pleistocene New Zealand sea lion Neophoca palatina the only known congener.[3] These sea lions are sparsely distributed through Houtman Arbrolhos Islands (28°S., 114°E.) in Western Australia and The Pages Islands (35°46’S., 138°18’E) in southern Australia. With a population estimated at around 14,730 animals, the Wildlife Conservation Act of Western Australia (1950) has listed them as “in need of special protection”. Their Conservation status is listed as endangered. These pinnipeds are specifically known for their abnormal breeding cycles, which are varied between a 5-month breeding cycle and a 17- to 18-month aseasonal breeding cycle, compared to other pinnipeds which fit into a 12-month reproductive cycle.[2] Females are either silver or fawn with a cream underbelly and males are dark chocolate brown with a yellow mane and are bigger than the females.

I went to Flushing's Chinatown yesterday and got this to take home. There's bean curd, deliciously spicy, and three vegetable dishes, one mixed vegetable one mostly hidden. This also came with a 500 ml (pint) bottlle of water. Cost? $4.95. This was a lot of very delicious food. I couldn't have dinner after eating this for lunch, but it was so good.
