Sparrowhawk female at great distance, it just flew over my head and landed in a field of Brussels Sprouts. Extensive crop (both photo and the sprouts).

Sperwer vrouwtje op grote afstand, het vloog net over mijn hoofd en landde in een veld met spruitjes. Flinke crop.

From yesterday morning, a Coyote uses the tried-and-true pouncing technique, hoping to surprise a vole or mouse under the snow. This is a substantial crop, aided by some upscaling via ON1 Resize.

As I had hoped, the mild weather has brought out the wildlife. In a three hour drive with many stops I saw three or four coyotes, countless prairie dogs & sharp-tailed grouse, dozens of bison & mule deer, one white-tailed deer, a few magpies, a couple of ravens... the usual suspects.

Always a pleasure to watch them going about the daily business of surviving duringthe lean season.

Scientific name: Ploceus cucullatus

Village weavers are medium-sized members of the weaver family. Breeding males have black heads with bright yellow and orange across much of the rest of the body. Females have olive-green and yellow feathers with dark brown across the tail.
