WORMERVEER - The Zaan Region is the oldest industrial area in Europe, and perhaps of the world. Zaanse companies are old themselves. But at the same time often still very much alive. The oldest Zaanse company that still exists today, the Morian head in Wormer, is 433 years old, 93 companies are older than 100 years, 12 are older than 200 years, 5 are over 300 years old.

Het oudste Zaanse bedrijf dat nu nog bestaat, het Moriaanshoofd in Wormer, is 433 jaar oud, 93 bedrijven zijn ouder dan 100 jaar, 12 ouder dan 200 jaar, 5 ouder dan 300 jaar.

Harbour action 24/7. On this occasion a very crowded Fishburn Catamaran (Sydney Ferry) is scurrying back to Circular Quay from its trek to Mosman and Cremorne Point.

A small owl of fairly open country, such as farmland with hedges and scattered trees, orchards, open woodland, and quarries.
Distinctive, with white-spotted upper-parts. Staring yellow eyes and white brows, together with frequently upright stance, often create alert appearance. Nests in cavities in trees and rocks. Sometimes active by day, perching quietly on posts or rocks, but mainly active dusk to dawn. Flight is low and undulating.
Calls are comprised of a range of endearing squeaks and high-pitched hoots.

Nadat we foto's hadden gemaakt bij Rotterdam zijn we naar Elst gegaan. 's Ochtends waren er werkzaamheden tussen Arnhem en Nijmegen waardoor er geen goederen konden rijden. We dachten dat ze er 's avonds weer gewoon konden rijden.
Dit bleek echter niet zo te zijn en zo werden de Bentheim en de Poznan shuttle via Zwolle geleid. Gelukkig zijn we niets voor niets hierheen gegaan. Onderweg naar Elst zagen we deze methanol keteltrein al in Oss staan.
Loc 189 071 van DB Cargo had de eer om de beladen methanol keteltrein te mogen rijden. De trein die 1280 als UN nummer had passeerde de 4 fotografen die na het maken van de foto naar huis gingen.

Nadat HSL langs was gekomen, werd nog ongeveer een halfuurtje gewacht op de Nosta shuttle, die ook via Zwolle reed. Als trein 41768 passeerde de trein de 8 fotografen die na het maken van deze foto wel welletjes vonden.

A single portrait image of a bird standing still doesn't provide much natural history, does it? Or maybe it does. In this frame, you can get a feel for the peace and tranquility of this foggy early morning. You can see that fog doesn't deter the great blue heron from its pursuits. Nor does high water. This wading bird has moved far into the pond, standing at least two feet deep for its hunting. If you are able to zoom in, you can also see the leading edge of the nictitating membrane visible in the center of its eye. Many birds have this translucent eye cover which is a membrane used to protect and moisturize a their eyes while still providing visibility. The nictitating membrane reaches from the front of the eye to the back. We can learn a great deal from just one single moment in time. Imagine what you can learn when you spend hours, days or even weeks observing nature's beautiful show. Streaming live 24/7, it's my favorite channel!

The last great steam show on Earth runs 24 hours a day 7 days a week with at least 1 train per hour. The industrial activity hauls trains consisting of approx 400 tons of coal from deep within the open cast coal pit approx 12 kilometres to the unloading facility at Xuanmecheng where it is transferred via conveyors to other trains for onward shipping to power stations.
Here we see JS 8190 dropping off her load under supervision from the yard foreman.
