Echinacea purpurea 23W30 Coneflower G1- (US Native) Common Coneflower, Mature plant size: 36in., Purple, USDA Hardiness Zone 3, Michigan Bloom Week ISO WW27, In Garden Bed G1 for 26.3 YEARS (Seed). Planted in 1997.

Missouri Botanical Garden: Echinacea purpurea, commonly called purple coneflower, is a coarse, rough-hairy, herbaceous perennial that is native to moist prairies, meadows and open woods of the central to southeastern United States (Ohio to Michigan to Iowa south to Louisiana and Georgia). It typically grows to 2-4' tall. Showy daisy-like purple coneflowers (to 5" diameter) bloom throughout summer atop stiff stems clad with coarse, ovate to broad-lanceolate, dark green leaves. Good fresh cut or dried flower. The dead flower stems will remain erect well into the winter, and if flower heads are not removed, the blackened cones may be visited by goldfinches or other birds that feed on the seeds. Echinacea comes from the Greek word echinosin. meaning hedgehog in reference to the spiny center cone.

I have grown many (~35 different varieties) of the new hybrid coneflowers without success. Several have made it through a winter or two, but most did not even survive one winter. I am in zone 6 (SE Michigan), but my winters are more like zone 5. Meanwhile, my common coneflowers continue to return year after year. Whatever the hybridizers did to "breed in" all the different colors and sizes drastically affected the winter hardiness. No more hybrids for me.

Per Woodhenge Gardens Daylilies: (Murphy, 2012) 52" EMRe 8" Dormant Diploid UF Cascade Extended. A very tall, large cream Cascade with purple band, chartreuse throat, and cream midrib. This very imposing plant is in bloom for 3 months with moderate bud building and instant rebloom. Sunfast at 101F at 7 p.m. Rain resistant. Three branches, 22 buds initially, more after bud building. I feel that this one is worthy of awards and would like to get it distributed, so I dropped the price to make it more affordable. 2017- Bloomed from June 22 until October 26. Parentage: MONACAN TRAIL x JUST JESSIE. Fertile.

About 1 foot tall after a year in the ground. Much taller in second year (2020): 3 feet tall with an attractive 8" bloom. Hopefully it will reach 5 feet next year. Scapes look sturdy and measure 0.25 inches in diameter. Total of 5 scapes so far this year.

Woodhenge Gardens: Truly standing above the crowd, Dances with Giraffes is at least 5 feet tall when established. The large blooms cascade and curl down from the tall scapes, golden yellow with a rose-peach blush eye above a green throat. It is registered as an unusual form/cascade. Difficult to set a pod, but the pollen is good. This makes a statement in the garden!

2020 Note: Planted 13 months ago and stands at a reasonable 30" tall with a 6 inch cascaded flower. If you flatten out the cascade it probably is 8 inches. Two scapes this year and they measure 0.2 inches in diameter. It's first bloom was last year 23 days after planting. I was surprised. Looking forward to this plant maturing.

Tomato 'Black Cherry' 23W30 Tomato S1- (Vicent Sapp, 2003) Cherry Tomato, Mature plant size: 65day, PURPLE, blackish purple, USDA Hardiness Zone Veg, Michigan Bloom Month -, In Garden Bed S1 for 128 DAYS (Pinetree). Planted in 2023.

Victory Seeds: 65 days, indeterminate — 'Black Cherry' plants are vigorous and very productive. Their bite-sized fruits are cherry shaped but have dark, purplish coloring similar to the famous 'Cherokee Purple' tomato. Pop one in your mouth and you will be rewarded with a wonderfully complex flavor palate that is fruity, balanced, very rich, sweet, and intense. 'Black Cherry' has become a very popular variety and is worthy of your garden space.

'Black Cherry' was originally developed from a "natural occurrence" and introduced in 2003 by the late Vincent Sapp, co-founder and original owner of Tomato Grower's Supply Company. Our original sample was sent to us by David Pendergrass of Middle Tennessee.

Per Woodhenge Gardens: WOODHENGE NATURAL (Murphy, 2016) Fall 42” M 7.5” Dormant, Diploid, Extended UF-Crispate. Out of Negative Image by a vigorous patterned seedling. An unusual patterned combination of colors- Red and rose dotted bitone with a darker red band, tan to cream edge, cream midribs, and yellow green throat. The dark red color and the edges fade during the hot days making the combination and pattern even more striking. Sunfast to the mid 90's here. 3 branches, 23 buds, fertile both ways. Almost all of the kids have this type of patterning. An improvement on its very good parent, Negative Image, because it is quite vigorous.
