The 750ft Penarth Pier was opened to the public in 1898 and, despite fires and being hit by shipping, it survives, given a Pier of the Year accolade in 2014.

The ship is the YAF S, a 100 x 17 metre general cargo vessel of 6055 Deadweight Tons (DWT) capacity, built in China in 2008 and registered in Istanbul.
