I camped on the top of Slieve Binnian in The Mourne Mountains, Northern Ireland last weekend hoping for a glorious sunset - instead there was cloud and drizzly rain. Sunrise? A whiteout. But descending, the clouds broke and golden light bathed the hills around me. Looking north.
Do you find that there are certain locations that, although you’ve photographed many times before, you still can’t resist returning to? I really love the beauty of this place. Sunset on Oak Grove Lake.
This beautiful spot is in the Yarra Ranges National Park. Cement Creek flows down from Mt Donna Buang on its way to join with the Yarra River which then flows thru the city of Melbourne, the capital city of Victoria, Australia. It was cold and wet as I held an umbrella to set up tripod, remote, and filters - it was not an easy task however, everything remained reasonably dry. Because this spot is so beautiful and reflective I had to share it with you. . . . Canon EF-S 10-22mm f3.5 -4.5 USM

Hamburg an einem Nebeligen Tag in der Großen Elbstraße. Hamburg on a foggy day in the Großer Elbstraße.
It was a wonderful feeling walking across some lonely winter fields. The swirling fog settled on the trees, forming beautiful ice crystals.
I find this image captures the atmosphere and mood I felt while being there...
Long exposure while doing some light painting with my strobe behind the tree.
I've been to Brugge a few times now and have got to know many of the famous haunts. This spot is a Mecca for tourists and photographers alike with the dog leg in the canal, the ornate brick buildings and the towering Belfry in the background.
We were on my cycling clubs spring tour; Brugge is a short hop over the English Channel for us, (two hours by ferry), and a 65 mile bike ride. Lucky enough we had a car and a van for backup so I was able stow some of my photographic kit.
Late one night I was able to extricate myself from the usual socialising and leg it to this spot approximately a mile from our hotel. Thankfully most of the tourists, (yes I know I'm one), had left the city or were tucked away in their hotels for the evening. Blue hour was coming to an end and thankfully the canal was mirror calm. The huge tungsten lights gave the scene a surreal quality with their orange glow which allowed me to capture this gorgeous night scene.
7 exposure, tripod mounted hdr -3 - +3. Nikon D700 with 16 - 35 f4 vr @ 22mm. ISO 800, exposure 1/5 - 25 sec at f9. Post processing via adobe camera raw, photomatix, & photoshop with topaz clarity and de noise plugins. I really had to mess around with the pp to try and remove banding in the blue sky. Anyone ever come across this problem?
Early Morning at Green Cay Wetlands, Boynton Beach, FL
I had to upload another early morning sunrise shot from last Saturday. I hope you aren't bored yet?! This was one of the first shots I took after it stopped raining. The light was still orangy pink as the sun climbed over the horizon and tried to make it through the clouds.
This was the view looking north-west from the boardwalk, the sun was rising to the right - sunrise at 6:55 am, shot at 7:04 am.
22mm - 1/800s - f/6.3 - ISO 100

Korestia is a historic region of Western Macedonia in Greece. It’s a cluster of mountain villages (Ano and Kato Kranionas, Halara, Ano and Kato Melas, Makrochori, Mavrokampos, Agios Antonios, Gavros) exhibiting strong architectural and cultural interest. The traditional architecture of the villages is great for the region of Western Macedonia. Old houses are constructed with handmade bricks with red clay and straw, giving a reddish color to the landscape. The construction of the houses was maintained until the mid-20th century and then abandoned.
I should have posted this last fall rather than this late in the spring, thus the title. When I first took up photography I was always taken with this type of shot. For several years I couldn't afford the equipment (wide angle lens) to shoot these. Now I can. This one turned out ok, I hope.

First outing with the 10-22mm lens that I dreamt about for so long.
I have much to learn and many great examples here on Flickr. Thanks Jess!

Going through my set from Iceland found an interesting image of the aurora with the mountains sharper and odd effect above the mountains resembling a pumpkin or face or house even !!
So this was one of a series of test shots to see if there was any activity in the sky - my first shots of northern lights in my life. Had a sloping roof to my hotel room with a velux window looking out over this scene. Shot was taken at 9:42pm - handheld resting on the open window frame with 0.5 second shutter f/2.8 aperture, ISO 3200 at 22mm focal length. Noise reduction - used Define 2.
The Northern Lights - it all dis-appeared in 20 minutes .
But like the pumpkin like effect in the centre just above mountains, with holes in the cloud cover allowing the aurora to shine through. {This is a straight shot no cutting and pasting by the way.}
This Morning at Cronulla

It's quite a difficult angle to shoot at this location as the sunrise is rising from the left of the beach. Tried my best to get the angle as much as possible which is not happening because of the overcast sky from the right of the horizon has covered the whole gap. but love this spot. First time and won't be the last.
