Freedom to the Scottish independence movement means self-determination, the chance to stay in Europe and freedom from Tory governments we don't vote for. This is some of my local group at the end of one of the many pro-independence marches we have attended. The location is the site of the Battle of Bannockburn. As I took the photo, I don't appear in it but my Cross of St George flag does. Let me explain. The organisers of the marches suggest that if you are not Scottish born, like me, you fly the flag of your country of origin. This demonstrates that Scottish nationalism is civic and not ethnic in nature. In other words, if you live and work here, you are welcome and can consider yourself a Scot. As a result, you see flags from nations across the world represented. There is an active English Scots For Yes group. Far from experiencing any anti-English sentiment I have had strangers approach me to congratulate me, shake my hand, take my photo and - sometimes - kiss me.
