A view of the north end of Toton yard, taken looking more or less directly into the morning winter sunshine, 11th February 2022. In the distance on the left you can just make out the start of the line of long stored Class 60’s dumped in the Toton yard reception sidings, awaiting their fate, whilst on the right is Toton depot. In the far distance is one of the biggest, and still operational coal fired power stations built in the country, the 2116MW Ratcliffe on Soar. These days it is in theory only on line as a last resort to cater for any peak demand and can spend a lot of time off line. However, this autumn/winter it has been on line frequently and as can be seen is today working hard.

A Siemens Charger brings up the rear of VIA 33 as it passes the frozen Peel Basin soon after leaving Central Station. This Siemens consist is still only being used on the Montreal-Ottawa portions of Quebec City-Ottawa trains and generally only once a week (on Tuesdays).

Sheffield Supertram 106 approaches the Fitzalan Square/Ponds Forge tramstop with a service for Meadow Hall, 23rd February 2022. The Sheffield Supertram network opened in stages during 1994/95 and is was operated by twenty five, three car trams built by Siemens-Duewag of Düsseldorf, Germany in 1992. In October 2018 an extension to Rotherham Parkgate was opened, the route using in part elements of Network Rail infrastructure. Seven Class 399 three car Tram Trains were built in 2015 by Vossloh for the Rotherham extension and additional tram capacity.

As a colour image this did not have a lot going for it, however in black and white it is a different story. Northern 150271 stands in platform 2 at Sheffield working 2N07, 08:16 Sheffield – Leeds, 16th February 2022.
