This American Avocet in winter plumage was seen at Merritt Island NWR. It's a fairly large wading bird (14", 46cm) that often feeds in groups by swinging their long recurved bills in the water.
I specifically searched for an Avocet and a Florida Scrub Jay on this trip, and was very satisfied to add both to my "life list."

Am 9. Mai 1994 fährt 220 367 mit einen Güterzug durch die Felder bei Chursdorf. Der Ort liegt an der Strecke von Werdau nach Weida. Dieses Bild entstand ziemlich dicht an der Landesgrenze zu Sachsen. Leider ist diese Strecke schon lange stillgelegt.

220 007 hat mit einem IC nach Athen den Anstieg zum Bralos-Pass in Angriff genommen und überquert die große Brücke von Gorgopotamos. Im Hintergrund sind die weißen Häuser von Lamia und die Berge des Othrys, die der Zug eine Stunde zuvor durchquert hat.
220 007 has started the ascent to Bralos pass with an IC towards Athens and crosses the large bridge at Gorgopotamos. In the backdrop are the white houses of Lamia and the Othrys mountains, which have been passed by the train one our before.
The thick fog bank coming in under the Golden Gate Bridge was over 220' high. I fell asleep to the sweet sound of the fog horns emanating from under the bridge as they sounded all night long. The light of the Lime Point Lighthouse is visible at the base of the fog.
