The spoil tip 'Bergehalde Adolf' is located in Herzogenrath-Merkstein (Germany), not far from the border to the Netherlands.
Coal mining was active there from 1913 until 1972 and the deepest point was 860 meters under the surface.
This picture was taken standing in Kerkrade (the Netherlands) shortly after a rainshower.
Taken with a M42 lens - Jupiter 21M 4/200 as panorama and stitched afterwards.
L’moindr’ de tes baisers,
A un goût sucré,
Mais quel est donc ton secret ?
Quand j’t’embrass’, j’me sens tout chos’ !
Oh ! Ma petit’ Ros’ !
Ta peau, quel’ merveill’,
A un parfum d’ miel,
Qui rend foll’ tout’ les abeill’ !
Dans tes bras, j’me sens tout chos’ !
Oh ! Ma petit’ Ros’ !
A toi tout’ seul’,
T’es un’ vraie confiserie !
Oui ! Mais, moi seul,
Jouis de tes gâteries !
Tu es la seul’ fill’
Au goût de vanill’,
Et tout cela m’émoustill’ !
Quand j’te croqu’, c’est l’overdos’ !
Oh !

February 20th, 2026, was a historic day for Barcelona, Catalonia, and architecture. This day the Torre de Jesus in La Sagrada Família was crowned with its upper arm. Now the scaffolding is mostly gone and the cross shines in all it's magnificence.
Since October 30th, la Sagrada Família is the highest church in the World, taking the title from the Ulm Cathedral, that was so since 1890.
21M heads west through Marysville with a UP power adding a splash of colors to compliment the quickly fading fall colors. At this point the 21M was still predominantly a TOFC train and added a nice diversion from the sea of container trains in either direction on the Pittsburgh Line.

Norfolk Southern TOFC train 21M glides downgrade on the Pittsburgh Line's West Slope as it passes under the Jamestown Road bridge in Portage, Pennsylvania. This bridge featured a unique set of PRR position light signals mounted to the road bridge rather than traditional wayside masts or signal bridges.

21M snakes its way off the "by-pass" around Allentown Yard and onto Main 1 of the Reading Line at BURN interlocking, named for nearby Auburn Street. In what has long been directional 251 territory, new signals are coming online soon to facilitate bidirectional running on this stretch between Burn and Blandon. While the efficiency gains for NS are evident, it'll be a shame to lose the old Reading searchlights that have governed this line for decades.
Both NS H76 and 21M are left-hand running today as they pass each other at the site of Bethlehem Steel. Until recently, the Lehigh Line was directional territory, and such a scene would not have been possible without track authority forms. Bidirectional running allows 21M to continue moving west around H76 where they would have otherwise blocked the entire interlocking at Bethlehem to cross over under the old configuration. Careful observers will note that 21M has an SD80MAC leading on this day - such things tend to happen when you are set up at a location where only a going-away view is possible.

Variegated Poinsettia
This is a close-up of the most popular potted plant in the US. Approximately $21m USD of poinsettias are sold around Christmas annually.
If you zoom in, you can see the flower, which is the tiny green spherical object at the very center that to me looks like a tiny upside down bell pepper. The colorful portions aren’t flowers; they are bracts (leaves).
This is another plant, indigenous to Mexico and Central America, which brings us a splash of color during the dark Pacific Northwest Fall and Winter. The Aztecs in the 14th century used this plant for warrior rituals & dyes, plus used the latex sap to treat wounds & to help break fevers.
The colors of the bracts are created through longer periods of darkness - at least 14 hours at a time for 6–8 weeks in a row. They require abundant light during the day to get the brightest colors.
We’ve kept this 1 alive and thriving for about 5 years; they can live as long as 20 years. The key: avoid over-watering. The “cover with a bag” advice isn’t something that we do.
