MILW #32A leads the Gourmet Express back towards Minneapolis after making its stop in Glencoe, Minnesota. Built in April of 1956 as MILW #202A, the #32A was donated to Friends of the 261 by WSOR in 2019 and was beautifully repainted into orange/maroon to match the rest of the passenger car fleet.

The Gourmet Express, operated by the Friends of 261, ran over the tracks of the Twin Cities & Western (the former Milwaukee Road main line to the west coast) on October 3, 2021. No. 261 led the train west; E9 32A led the trip east. The train departed Chanhassen at 10:00 AM and stopped on the west side of Glencoe. It then reversed directions, and stopped in Glencoe for lunch and photo runbys.
Union Depot Train Days was held June 3rd and 4th in St. Paul, Minnesota. Featured attractions included Milwaukee Road 4-8-4 261 and E9A 32A, Great Northern NW-5 192, the freshly-repainted “Caritas.” Representing CPKC were a pair of GE locomotives, CP AC44CWM 8074 and KCS ET44C4 5000.

The TC&W's 30th Anniversary excursion is being staged in St. Anthony Yard on the Commercial with the MILW #32A bringing up the west end of the train.
#32A was built #202A in 1956, one of six EMD E9 A-B-A sets built for service on Milwaukee Road's Chicago-Omaha passenger corridor. As such, it was built to Union Pacific specifications and painted in Armor Yellow. Upon the startup of Amtrak, it was rebuilt in Milwaukee and became AMTK #434. It was retired from the Amtrak roster in 1982 and spent the rest of its career on the Alaska Railroad, Northern Rail Car Leasing, and Wisconsin and Southern before being acquired by the Friends of the 261 organization.
Milwaukee Road EMD E9A No. 32A is on the east end of the "Gourmet Express" at Cologne on the TCWR Glencoe Sub, former MILW trackage. MILW No. 261 is leading the train westbound.
This E unit was built in April of 1956 as No. 202A, which was part of six sets of A-B-A E9's. Later becoming No. 32A, it survived on the MILW until the early 1970's when it was retired. During it's tenure on the Milwaukee Road, it ran this same route pulling trains such as the Olympian Hiawatha.
It continued to live as AMTK No. 434 until 1982 when newer power arrived. The Alaska Railroad bought it for their passenger service and renumbered it to No. 2402 before it was sold to Northern Rail Car Leasing in Wisconsin in 1986. It was renumbered to No. 10C and used on a dinner train operated by Scenic Rail Dining out of North Milwaukee, WI.
It was eventually passed down to the Wisconsin & Southern and became WSOR No. 101. It had been used on their private train, and once Watco took ownership, it traveled to several affiliate railroads within the system.
In early 2019, it was donated to the Railroad Heritage of Midwest America & Friends of the 261. Though it was delivered in a yellow paint scheme similar to UP, it's been repainted into a unique adaptation of the MILW's maroon and orange colors to match the other vintage MILW equipment. 10/2/21.

Wisconsin and Southern E9 10C has seen its share of the country and more than its share of paint since being built by EMD in 1956 as Milwaukee Road 202A.
It was powering a passenger special through Palmyra in 2005 with some former Metra cars.
After Milwaukee Road was done with it, it went on to Amtrak and toured the entire United States except for Hawaii as it went on to the Alaska Railroad after Amtrak.
The EMD returned to Wisconsin and pulled dinner excursion trains for Scenic Rail Dining before landing on the Wisconsin and Southern as business train power.
When Watco pulled the plug on the business train after acquiring the Wissor, the old gal finally landed in Minnesota and became the Milwaukee Road 32A for the Friends of the 261 organization and wears a stylized version of Milwaukee Road paint.

Milwaukee Road E9A 32A is pulling the annual North Pole Express at St. Paul Union Station the second weekend in December 2021. Friends of 261 is mixing it up this year - steam locomotive 261 pulled the train December 3-5, and E9A 32A (recently restored) is in charge December 9-12. Nothing like a classic E unit for the holidays!
Former Milwaukee Road E9 202A was rolling a passenger special through Eagle back in 2005. The nifty E-unit saw most of the US while an Amtrak motor, and even called Alaska home for a while.
Wisconsin and Southern gave her a good home until Watco took over.
The well-traveled E-unit was sold to the 261 crew and plans are for it to be used on excursions either with the 261 or by itself.
Wat Ratchaburana is a Buddhist temple in the Ayutthaya Historical Park, Ayutthaya, Thailand. The temple's main prang is one of the finest in the city.
Wat Ratchaburana was founded in 1424 by King Borommarachathirat II of the Ayutthaya Kingdom and built on the cremation site of his two elder brothers who had fought to their deaths in a duel for the royal succession to their father Intha Racha.
The temple's central prang has undergone restoration. Original stucco work can be seen. Mythical creatures as well as lotus are featured. Four Sri Lankan stupas surround the main prang.
The prang's crypt, accessible by steep stairs, houses faded frescoes. These comprise some of the rare such examples from the early Ayutthaya period. The crypt's Buddha images exhibit both Khmer and Sukhothai influences.

Union Depot Trains Days came back in 2021 over the weekend of June 5-6. The event was held at St. Paul, Minnesota’s, restored 1923 neoclassical-style depot that was once served by nine different railroads, and featured numerous vendors, displays, and locomotives from area lines. Because it was held during the 77th anniversary of D-Day, the theme of the event was “Keep ‘em Rolling,” a nod to the trains and soldiers of WWII.

Our hotel is right next to this pier. Whenever we go walking along the beach we use this as our point of reference. As long as we can see it, we know we haven't walked too far.
At one point it got really tiny so we figured it was time to turn back!

Railroad Heritage of Midwest America recently acquired this former Milwaukee Road E9A, former MILW 202A (32A). On June 22, 2019, it was part of a special excursion operated for the Milwaukee Road Historical Association from Minneapolis to Brownton, Minnesota. It's slated to be painted in Milwaukee Road orange to match the excursion fleet.
