The pecan is a species of hickory native to the southern United States and northern Mexico. A pecan, like the fruit of all other members of the hickory genus, is not truly a nut, but is technically a drupe, a fruit with a single stone or pit, surrounded by a husk. The pecan tree is a large deciduous tree, growing to 20–40 m (66–131 ft) in height. Native pecans in Mexico are adapted from zone 9 to zone 11.

The meteor captured in this image is definitely not a Perseid. It came from the south so I reckon it might be an alpha-Capricornid.

These are two of the most photographed and celebrated red hydrogen gas clouds in the sky, in the centre of our Milky Way galaxy as it passes through the northern constellation Cygnus (the Swan).

An insignificant cheap MTB, you might think. But have a look at the rear rack - I think it's custom built to carry a pail/bucket (probably to transport shellfish collected from the shore here).

This galaxy is close to but much fainter and more elusive to see in binoculars or a telescope than its famous neighbour, the great Andromeda Galaxy.

From Wikipedia:

"The Triangulum Galaxy is a spiral galaxy approximately 3 million light-years from Earth in the constellation Triangulum. It is catalogued as Messier 33 or NGC 598, and is sometimes informally referred to as the Pinwheel Galaxy, a nickname it shares with Messier 101. The Triangulum Galaxy is the third-largest member of the Local Group of galaxies, which includes the Milky Way, the Andromeda Galaxy and about 44 other smaller galaxies. It is one of the most distant permanent objects that can be viewed with the naked eye.

The galaxy is the smallest spiral galaxy in the Local Group and it is believed to be a satellite of the Andromeda Galaxy due to their interactions, velocities and proximity of one another in the night sky."

This is a large and quite faint emission nebula and star forming region over 100 light-years across, located about 2,400 light-years away in the constellation Cepheus. It is energized by the bright, bluish central multiple star. The very small Elephant’s Trunk nebula (IC 1396A) is inside the dark elongated globule just to the left of centre.

From one web site: "The brightest star (38,000 times brighter than the Sun) ... [at the lower left edge of the nebula] is mu Cephei. It is a red supergiant star with a diameter larger than the orbit of Saturn, some 2536 times the diameter of the Sun. It is one of the largest stars we know of. Also called Herschel’s Garnet Star, mu Cephei is a variable star that varies in magnitude from 3.4 to 5.1 over a period of approximately 730 days."

While I was out for a night of astrophotography, I looked to the north a little after 03.00 in the morning and saw a glow along the horizon. Thinking that it was probably an aurora that had come up, I put a camera on the tripod and grabbed this short, grainy view before it faded from view.
