EXPLORED April 2, 2014 #1 I always enjoy the beach full of seals at San Simeon, California. This little one had a mark that reminded me of a heart...and by that sweet smile, I am sure he is dreaming of his sweetheart.

Wat Benchamabophit Dusitvanaram is a Buddhist temple (wat) in the Dusit district of Bangkok, Thailand. Also known as the marble temple, it is one of Bangkok's most beautiful temples and a major tourist attraction. It typifies Bangkok's ornate style of high gables, stepped-out roofs and elaborate finials.

IInternationale Luft- und Raumfahrtausstellung in Berlin

International Aerospace exhibition in Berlin

We have spent the last ten days up on the Durham Moors where the weather might have been kinder – mists, rain, drizzle and the occasional dry spell but invariably a bitterly cold strong wind reducing temperatures to four degrees.

However having driven hundreds of miles we were as usual determined to make the most of our stay and this is one of the subjects we found up on the moors.

As you can see it was raining again but this chap and his colleagues at different times presented brief opportunities for a few clicks but on occasions the rain was driving in through the car window!!.

Yes the title is a little harsh but it's true. I took one of my personal favorite photos ever only to realize that it's not TACK SHARP, heres the story.

The other night in Cologne Germany we had a FrotoMeetup at the Dom at 8pm. I knew it was going to be dark and a few weeks ago I woke up with the idea to have everyone turn on the led from their cell phone to light their faces.

I borrowed a tripod that someone brought, set up the shot vertically, locked focus in the middle, set the timer and let it rip. The results were great, the image was tack sharp even at 4000 ISO with the Nikon D810.

Just after I took the photo and started to break down the tripod, I noticed lights shining on the Dom. This was really a random mircarcle that was going to transform the picture. I quickly put the camera back on the tripod and attempted to set it up similar to what I had before. When I tried to get the autofocus to work this time around, it would not lock in. Since it wasn't locked in I decided to use the live view to manually focus.

I get everyone set back up with their phones out, pressed the timed released to take a photo in 10 seconds every .5 seconds for 5 images and rushed into the shot. The problem was my focus was not perfect. I did not know this until I was able to take the file and put it onto the new laptop.

Let me dive a little deeper into this. The reason I am pointing out that I missed the focus ever so slightly is I did not want people to say it was a camera issues with the Nikon D810, it was human error, my error.

With that said I am not sure people would have noticed it wasn't tack sharp if I did not point it out. Especially when you are zoomed in so far on the file to check the faces.

The urge to father the next crop of calves is so strong that it makes these beast very restless .

They will charge around rounding up their hinds and warding off other would be suitors and then they will lay down.

No sooner have they laid down than they then get up and roar fearing the possible loss of status

They are in mental turmoil and because of this can be quite dangerous and un predictable so it is best to keep some distance between them and the camera. Seventy five yards is our space but each to his own.

I used to be an athlete in my youth and run for West Sussex but even at my fittest I would not have outrun one of these stags and now with knees and hips giving me problems there would be no chance of escape - hence the gap between woman and beast!!!

This weeks theme is "Out with the old".

Did you make any new years resolutions? I never do, so this is more symbolic for resolutions.

The only resolution I made this year was to take it a little easier with photography. I finished a 365 project on new years eve. It was alot of work but mostly pleasurable.

Shot this photo yesterday and processed and uploaded today because I was too tired yesterday. That would not have happened last year.
