20042+20097 give it all they've got as they make the climb from Great Rocks Junction to Peak Forest in atrocious conditions on February 24th 1986.

The Boeing Collection

From a collection of some 500 Boeing slides that I've had scanned from my archives. Hope they will provide some enjoyment and nostalgia from a bygone age.

4X-ATT, one of El Al's fleet of Boeing 707s, is seen here in the sunshine as it rolls down the runway at Amsterdam Schiphol. The callsign was LY334. El Al Boeing 707s were a common sight at my 'home base' of London Heathrow, on both passenger and cargo flights.

4X-ATT c/n 20097 Boeing 707-358B - was delivered new to El Al Israel Airlines in January 1969 and flew with the airline for around 20 years, before passing to Jet AViation Co. as TF-AYF in September 1989. However, the aircraft was sold back to Boeing in the same year, to be parted out for the KC-135E program at Davis-Monthan AFB.

Taken with a Soviet made Zenith TTL camera and 300mm lens. From an original slide, scanned with minimal restoration.

The only loco identifiable is 20097. Quality is not great but it's a crop of a damaged negative.

I have started to collect a number of original slides (with copyright) 'most' of which probably haven’t been seen before. Some come with image information and some don't. Please feel free to leave a comment if you know locations, dates, numbers etc, it would be much appreciated. I have uploaded these at a low resolution, please don't copy / download without my prior permission.

I only collect slides on the understanding that the full copyright transfers over to me. If you believe there to be a copyright issue please drop me an email.

A faded looking 20097 was stored at Crewe Works on September 22nd 1979. The loco had a damaged cab end, and looked as though it had not worked for some time. It was built at the former Robert Stephenson & Hawthorn factory at Darlington as D8097, and had been new in November 1961. The loco was renumbered to 20097 in January 1973 whilst allocated to Toton depot. Its official withdrawal date was in September 1989, and 20097 was scrapped in October 1991.

This is a scan of a Kodachrome slide. It comes from my collection which I have gathered over the past 30+ years.

A pair of class 20 locos sometime in the 1980s.

Locomotive History

20097 dates from 1961 and was originally D8097. It was a Scottish based locomotive for a long time (as denoted by the cab recess for single line token exchange equipment) until it moved south to Toton in the mid 1970’s. I first saw this locomotive on Eastfield MPD on the 23rd April 1972. It lasted in service until September 1989 and it was broken up by MC Metals Glasgow in October 1991. 20071 dates from 1961 and was originally D8071. It lasted in service until March 1992 and it was broken up by MC Metals Glasgow in March 1995.
