I'll have to insert title and straighten image after work...off I go. Happy Wednesday, everyone!

The cathedral.

As a typical Romanesque building, Lund Cathedral is distinctively dark, with only small windows to allow sunshine to pass through. The Latin-cross church has three aisles and a transept. The quire (under the crossing) has splendid gothic choir stalls from the 1370s. The gothic winged-altarpiece of the main chapel of the apse dates from 1398.

The cathedral's south aisle has an information counter, a globe of light and various exhibitions.

A new series. Out of square format, no title except that "engraved" on each photo GPS coordinates "a place of reliving a moment." In fact all the photos in this series are from my 1st photos made in 2009 with a modest Samsung.

Thank you for this one I've exhausted, finished with Scotch for his seal ...

and offered me a "window" to the world!

October is the tenth month of the year in the Gregorian Calendar and one of seven Gregorian months with a length of 31 days. The eighth month in the old Roman calendar, October retained its name (from the Latin "octo" meaning "eight") after July and August, after Julius and Augustus Caesar respectively; when the calendar was originally created by the Romans.

October is commonly associated with the season of autumn in the Northern hemisphere and spring in the Southern hemisphere, where it is the seasonal equivalent to April in the Northern hemisphere and vice versa.

In common years January starts on the same day of the week as October, but no other month starts on the same day of the week as October in leap years.

October's flower is the Calendula with its birthstone being the Opal. The meaning of the Opal is Hope.

The Cathedral.

The astronomical clock of the cathedral, the Horologium mirabile Lundense, was made around 1424. After having been in storage since 1837, it was restored and put back in place in 1923.

When it plays, one can hear In dulci jubilo from the smallest organ in the church, while six wooden figures, representing the three magi and their servants, pass by Mary and Jesus. The clock plays two times a day, at 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. every day, except on Sundays when the earliest playing takes place at 1:00 p.m. in order not to interrupt the morning service.

On top of the clock there are two knights that mark the hours. The upper board of the clock is the astronomical clock. It shows, among other things, the different phases of the Moon and where the Sun sets.

The lower board of the clock is a calendar. With the help of it one can, among other things, calculate when different mobile religious holidays will fall and on which weekday a certain date will fall. In the middle of the calendar stands Saint Lawrence, the Patron Saint of the Cathedral, and by his side the Symbols of the Four Evangelists. The present board of the clock goes from 1923 to 2123, after that a new one must be obtained so that the clock can be used.

took this photo with a Nikon D700. Nice camera, very capable. But it has a design defect regarding some simple parts.

Here's my "peeling grip" story. My D700 is 9 months old, bought in the US (my permanent home) and delivered there when I was home last winter. I live and work full-time outside the US.

For 8 months, the rubber grips were fine. Then all of a sudden, 2 of them lifted off the camera and now are loose over about 3/4 of their area. They'll stick back down if I press on them, but that lasts only for a couple of hours.

I wrote to Nikon USA, told them I couldn't send the camera in for warranty repair because I'm overseas and the cost of shipping would be $350 per DHL. I requested that Nikon simply send me replacement grips (which have the double-sided adhesive attached) and I'd do the replacement.

Nikon's response: spend the money and ship the camera to Melville NY. They wrote that it's not possible for Nikon to send the grip panels to me under any circumstances.

My response is simple: they're nuts.

My next response? Other companies make nice cameras too, even though 40+ years of Nikon use is hard to forget. I'll learn to live without my Nikons over time.

But it's also hard to believe that a company is so inflexible, and cares so little for its customers. That sort of corporate behavior is what led to the bankruptcy of the US auto industry; it's remarkable that Nikon has chosen that sorry example as its role model.

L'AFFRESCO NON S'HA DA COPRIRE 2° parte

era vietato intervenire in modo privato.

Quali i prodigiosi prodotti?

Update

Sorry I uploaded this and ran... literally. Sat in departures for an hour and only found I had free wifi access just as they called my flight .. doh :-( One quick upload... didn't even have time to put a description...

So... This was taken Tuesday night, and the sky really was that colour... an unbelievably beautiful night in London. 30 sec exposure and managed to catch the movement in the sky. Exif data, map location etc all added in replaced shot.

Here are some cookies I entered in the Arizona State Fair this year and won 1st place and Best in Show. The design was inspired by one of my favorite cookie designers, Jen Whitlock. I asked her permission to use the design, which she graciously permitted. Here is her wonderful design, which she thought up at her sister's house and used a glass to cut them out: www.cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=gallery&file=dis... My brother custom-made this cutter for me.

These species of anemone are actually native to China, despite their common name of Japanese Anemone. The flowers became known in Europe after a specimen was recorded near Nagasaki in 1695, and by the time the first plants were introduced in 1844, they were already known as Anemone japonica. The name is still sometimes used in catalogs, but most modern varietals are descended from Anemone x hybrida.

The name anemone comes from the Greek word anemos, meaning wind. Anemones are sometimes called windflowers.

I found this very rare Bentley Brooklands driving on Railroad Avenue in the snow in Greenwich, Connecticut. These are very rare as there were only 550 built in total. This is the second one I have spotted so far on the road.
