The quaint fishing village of Polperro in costal Cornwall captured thirteen years ago ...I feel a return visit is in order?!?

Before retiring, I lived in the city of Surgut, northern Siberia. With real winter and real frost. Now I live in the south of Russia, where it rarely snows, and even in winter, sometimes the temperature is above zero Celsius. Recently, I was looking through photos taken in Surgut in winter. Today I'm posting photos from 2005.

With the weight of their soda ash train now fully on the uphill grade leaving the Searles Valley, which will persist all the way to Searles, the thunderous roar emitted from the Trona Railway's collection of seven second generation EMDs match the labored exhaust being shot skyward.

One of the tiny shorebirds seen last week, this Sanderling is just beginning its transition from non-breeding to breeding plumage. Photographed at Reed Lake, Saskatchewan (Canada). My son became enchanted by an interactive Astro Boy action figure that we bought while on vacation last summer. He took it wherever he went. After a GameBoy game, keychain, manga series, and bobble head infiltrated the house, it just felt natural to be Astro Boy for Halloween.

Direct Quote from Wikipedia:

"Devils Tower (Lakota: Mato Tipila, which means “Bear Lodge”) is a monolithic igneous intrusion or volcanic neck located in the Black Hills near Hulett and Sundance in Crook County, northeastern Wyoming, above the Belle Fourche River. It rises dramatically 1,267 feet (386 m) above the surrounding terrain and the summit is 5,112 feet (1,558 m) above sea level.

Devils Tower was the first declared United States National Monument, established on September 24, 1906, by President Theodore Roosevelt. The Monument's boundary encloses an area of 1,347 acres (5.45 km2).

In recent years about 1% of the Monument's 400,000 annual visitors climb Devils Tower, mostly through traditional climbing techniques.[3]

Film director Steven Spielberg used the location in his 1977 film Close Encounters of the Third Kind."

A quick look at Real Time Trains this morning, 27th May 2020 and I noticed a “trip” working out and back from Toton to Beeston Sims Mcintyre’s. This surprised me as I had not seen any traffic to Sims Mcintyre’s for many months and the last time I had passed by in early March the siding was almost totally buried under large piles of scrap. I had therefore concluded that rail traffic had ceased.

I was too late for the outward move but made my way down to Attenborough to see what returned. It turned out DB Cargo 66147 with a single MBA bogie box wagon, I could not tell if it was loaded or not.

Was this a proving run to verify the re-use of the siding, was this an extra wagon not required or was this the only actual traffic? I would be grateful if anyone knows the answer and also the workings headcode.

Due to the bright sunshine and angle of the sun I could not get a colour version I was happy with and have settled on this black and white version.

Try it On Black

This is my second attempt at this.

Unfortunately I uploaded the first effort, and got some comments. Thank you.

I have tried to present these in the first comment below.

I hope this is alright with you.

Lodger in my rather overgrown rear yard in January 2011, around 4 years or so before he moved in permanently me along with his brother Roger in 2015.

At the time of this photograph, l had no idea where Lodger came from and he was a rather nervous but regular visitor to my garden.

Lodger was put to sleep by a veterinary surgeon on November 21st 2022 after an acute and unrecoverable neurological event. flic.kr/p/2o1G14f.

Lodger was born in January 2005 and passed away just a few weeks short of his 18th birthday.

Lodger adopted me along with his lifelong buddy and brother Roger in 2015 after being locally abandoned (long story) and it took me 4 years to establish (with help from a tip off) who was responsible and why. Lodger spent his final 7 years of his life loved and cared for in his new forever home.

One of the last pictures to stand in Iraq depicting the late dictator Saddam Hussein. I was quite surprised to see him even in this condition. With all the bullet scars exposing the concrete and rebar, the painting takes on new form of sort. Iraq 2005.
