A Proctor Roadswitch crew spots cars for dumping on Dock 6 as a limestone train heads up the ramp from Missabe Junction to Proctor. It was CN at this point, but you wouldn't know it from this shot.

Before retiring, I lived in the city of Surgut, northern Siberia. With real winter and real frost. Now I live in the south of Russia, where it rarely snows, and even in winter, sometimes the temperature is above zero Celsius. Recently, I was looking through photos taken in Surgut in winter. Today I'm posting photos from 2005.

With the weight of their soda ash train now fully on the uphill grade leaving the Searles Valley, which will persist all the way to Searles, the thunderous roar emitted from the Trona Railway's collection of seven second generation EMDs match the labored exhaust being shot skyward.

My son became enchanted by an interactive Astro Boy action figure that we bought while on vacation last summer. He took it wherever he went. After a GameBoy game, keychain, manga series, and bobble head infiltrated the house, it just felt natural to be Astro Boy for Halloween.

Direct Quote from Wikipedia:

"Devils Tower (Lakota: Mato Tipila, which means “Bear Lodge”) is a monolithic igneous intrusion or volcanic neck located in the Black Hills near Hulett and Sundance in Crook County, northeastern Wyoming, above the Belle Fourche River. It rises dramatically 1,267 feet (386 m) above the surrounding terrain and the summit is 5,112 feet (1,558 m) above sea level.

Devils Tower was the first declared United States National Monument, established on September 24, 1906, by President Theodore Roosevelt. The Monument's boundary encloses an area of 1,347 acres (5.45 km2).

In recent years about 1% of the Monument's 400,000 annual visitors climb Devils Tower, mostly through traditional climbing techniques.[3]

Film director Steven Spielberg used the location in his 1977 film Close Encounters of the Third Kind."
